It is with broken hearts that the family announces the passing of our father, papa, and husband, Frank D. Goodman of Beardmore, January the 9th, 2024.
Frank was born in Port Arthur, on June the 14th, 1941 to Herbert and Jeanette Goodman. Frank’s childhood days were spent in MacDiarmid where he made many lifelong friendships. Frank met the love of his life, Dorothy, in Beardmore and together they made their home and raised their family.
Frank and Dorothy, ‘The Road Warriors’, were often found travelling the roads, whether it was getting gas, picking up a new tool, or their evening rides to the Lake; and of course, had Willies Roadhouse playing on the radio.
Frank was charismatic, witty, and loved to socialize, he always had the kettle on and was ready for company. He especially enjoyed when people would stop by for ice, so he could tell a story or share a map of where they were headed. If you needed something, Frank was always there and willing to lend a hand, stranger or not.
If you ever had a chance to sit with Frank, he was a wealth of knowledge when it came to Lake Nipigon and all the surrounding lakes. Being a lifelong commercial fisherman and trapper, there wasn’t land or water that he hadn’t explored. Wherever you go, you’d often run into someone who has a story that Frank Goodman shared with them. Frank was often referred to as one of the «Greatest Fishermen on Lake Nipigon.»
Frank was a wonderful husband and father who worked hard to provide for his family. He welcomed the cold weather and couldn’t wait to put his long johns on at the end of August. Frank’s most cherished thing in the world was his family. He enjoyed sharing stories with them, spending time at camp, being on the boat and teasing them. Frank looked forward to his nightly visits with his grandchildren, Trystan, Payton and Taylor, the kettle was on, he was ready to chat and hear all about their day.
Frank was so proud to have passed on his fishing and trapping knowledge to his son and grandchildren, whether it was showing them a new fishing spot, skinning a beaver, or his favourite – repairing nets. Frank’s hands were never idle, and he instilled that into his family. Frank was so proud of his daughters and all their accomplishments; he looked forward to their calls and visits.
Frank will be missed by his loving wife Dorothy, his son Luke (Nikki), and his daughters Dee (Mark), Gwen (Larry), Amelia (Milton), and Mona (Jim), and his grandchildren: Taylor, Payton, Trystan, Morgan, Averey, Malachi, Zachary, Nicholas, Janelle, Darrell, Dale, Jeff, Pam, and Denise. As well as numerous great grandchildren and Sue Premack (Goodman) whom he considered a little sister. Also survived by Sister in laws Donna and Ginette, and numerous nephews and nieces.
Predeceased by his parents Herbert and Jeanette Goodman, brothers Jack, Herb and Glen and sisters, Winto, Nora, Beatty, Shirley, Dorothy, and Lovey.
A special thank you to Brenda Goodman, Jeff and Heather the Paramedics, and the Nipigon District Memorial Hospital doctors, nursing staff, and a special mention of Nurse Charlie.
In memory of Frank Goodman, donations can be made to the Nipigon District Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Monday January 15, 2024 at 1:00 pm, at the Community Baptist Church in Beardmore (30 McKenzie St.)
