Francis
«Glenn» Langley, 81 of Drum Head, Guys. Co. passed away
November 30, 2024 in St. Mary’s Memorial Hospital,
Sherbrooke N.S, with his daughter, Natalie by his
side.

Born on
December 25, 1942 in New Glasgow. He was a son of the late Bruce and
Eleanor «Ellie» (Chisholm)
Langley.

Glenn worked
most of his life as a fisherman. For over 40 years he ground fished,
long lined, herring seined etc. Many years were spent fishing with Tor
Bay Fisheries. Dad also worked with the Coast Guard Ice Breaker up
North in Greenland. He also was a mechanic for a few years in New
Glasgow. His later years, dad lobster fished on his own
boat, teaching his grandchildren the trade and everything he knew. He
retired at the age of 76, still longing to be out on the water every
spring. When visiting him and mom you never knew if or when he would
break into a story. He would tell us funny events or sing us a little
«diddy». His stories about being a kid were funny, Dad was a
great storyteller. I hope you got to hear
one.

Glenn is
survived by his daughter, Natalie (Edison); son, Jason (Paige);
grandchildren, Kaitlyn Crooks, Ashley Langley (Alex), Brandon
Nickerson (Ty), Haley Nickerson, Nicholas Nickerson (Destiny); great
grandchildren, Jessica, Melody, Ryan, Harrison, Eli and Grace; his
sister, Linda (Langley) Rutherford, Ontario; niece, Sherry Lynn Smith,
Ontario.

Glenn was
predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Faye and great grand-daughter,
Ellie Margaret Dawn Horne.

Dad was very
proud of all of his grandchildren, and they loved him dearly. Below is
a memory from each of them about him.

Kaitlyn:
Grampie always used to give really tight squeeze hugs and always used
to look me in the eyes afterwards and smile and tell me how beautiful
I was. He was the first man to tell me that. Ryan loved sitting really
close to him with a big smile and share his peanuts every time he came
to visit.

Ashley: One time close to
Christmas Grampie got me ready and he was going to take me to get a
Christmas tree. I was going to be allowed to have it in my room and I
was excited as it was the first and only Christmas living with them
before we moved up the road. We got in his truck and didn’t
go far, just up the road a bit. He walked all around with me showing
me trees and making a time of it. I saw a tree and I told him I liked
it a lot and it was the one. He showed me some more trees asking if I
was sure about it, I was really set on it so he cut down this little
tree for me and we took it home. He made a stand for it and up to my
room it went. Nanny got me some lights and decorations and I was proud
of this tree. I didn’t know any better at the time as I was
6 or 7… Come to find out as I got older, that grampie took
me to get the tree of my dreams and despite him showing me lovely true
balsam fir Christmas trees that I only had eyes for «an old ugly
goddammed cat spruce» that was more like Charlie
Brown’s Christmas tree. He couldn’t talk me out of
it and he always told me how funny he found
it.

Brandon: I
don’t have any one particular memory that I can say stands
out with Pa. They were all good memories. I cherished every memory I
have of him, so like I said; there is no one memory stands out against
the others. He was a great man that I looked up to, learned from, and
loved very much.

Haley: My favorite memory
is when I was fishing with him. He taught me everything he could that
had to do with fishing, sea birds and old fishermen superstitions. I
loved sitting with him and telling me all his life stories. I also
loved how knowledgeable he was, the conversations we would have with
such knowledge. I will always remember his working hands and tight
hugs. He always encouraged me to do what made me happy. He always said
that was the most important thing in life, to be
happy…

Nicholas: I loved how
fascinated Pa was with my construction set up under the deck when I
was younger. It was a very large and well thought out site. He came
around now and again and told me not to dig up the footers for the
deck or it would fall down… I always liked going down to the wharf
during lobster fishing and watch him come in and ask for a
lobster.
