Also left to mourn is his good buddy, Bobby Maher.
Born May 12, 1954, he grew up on Ridge Road, St. John’s and was well known for throwing rocks, shooting a bb gun, and starting rackets.
Married Deborah Peddle of Groves Road, St. John’s, June 9, 1973.
To provide a better life for his family, Dad took a huge risk and bought a hog farm in 1989, Middle Pond, where he also raised various other animals, but we think he had the most fun on the tractor. While living there, dad enjoyed going for runs on the quad, ski-dooing, troutin, ice fishing, and snaring rabbits. And berry picking with Mom.
A Jack of All Trades, a master of none, there was nothing that Dad wouldn’t venture to make, while adding that “it would only take an hour.” He could put an arse in a cat, but it might not look too good. He would say, “That’s good enough.”
Dad wasn’t afraid of hard work, he was as strong as an ox, stubborn as a mule. He wouldn’t hesitate to give ya a hand ,help to build a shed, rock a well or shingle a roof. For many years, dad could get any old car or truck running with ease, and often modified and welded things to suit his needs. He built, moved, and tore down that many sheds, we’ve lost track.
When he had grandchildren, which were his pride and joy, Dad would be first to give them a sip of Pepsi, shoot a gun, ride on the quad, build a fire with them, and buy them their first troutin pole.
One of his favorite places to go was in da woods, where he cut firewood and logs. We wouldn’t be able to guess how many cords of wood he cut! He would often say, “I’d like to live so far in da woods, you’d have to come out to hunt.”
We would like to extend thanks to the many homecare workers, Danielle St. Croix, Cathy Glynn, Renee Batten, Tracey-lynn Kennedy and Taralynn Dobbin. All the staff of St. Patrick’s Mercy Home 2E, you were so kind to Dad, Thank You. We can’t forget to thank Dad’s neighbours in Middle Pond, Ken Guest, Harry and Millie Bulger, Jackie and Gerry Carew, and Jim and Colleen Owens.
Cremation has taken place. As Dad requested there will be no service or visitation. When the family is ready his ashes will be placed with his wife our Mother.
