With saddened hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Frank Grech, at his home, on Monday, Oct. 9, 2023, at the age of 99.
Beloved husband of 70 years to Carmen. Loving and devoted father to Linda Azzopardi, the late Wendy Grech (Steve Walker) and Lori (Ken) Hunt. Proud nannu to Jillian (Geoff), Michael (Claire), Ashley (Mike), Nicole (Ian), Matthew, Lisa and Tyler. Doting buz-nannu to Owen, Julia, Addie, Bradley, Harley Rose, Conor, Jack, Isabella, Derek and Autumn. Survived by his sister Mary in Malta.
Frank was born in Malta in 1924. He apprenticed as a finish carpenter at The Dockyard in Malta before immigrating to Canada in 1948, settling in Toronto’s Junction area. There he met Carmen Camilleri and they were married in 1953. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this year on May 2.
Frank and Carmen lived on Ellins Avenue in Toronto for 60 years where they raised three daughters and made lifelong friends.
Frank took great pride in his home and had the best lawn on the block. He enjoyed tinkering in his immaculate and super organized workshop.
He had beautiful penmanship and was an excellent calligrapher. Frank put these skills to great use, volunteering as a scribe for ten years at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church handwriting cards welcoming new parishioners, and sending get well, sympathy and congratulatory messages on behalf of the pastor and parishioners.
Frank was a past president of The Maltese Canadian Soccer Club of Toronto and his workplaces included Bell and Howell, Noresco and The Franklin Mint.
Frank will be missed dearly by his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family and friends, and will be forever in our hearts.
Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W. (at Windermere), Toronto, on Sunday, Oct. 15 from 2-4 & 6-8pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 1701 Bloor St. W., Toronto, on Monday, Oct. 16 at 11am with reception to follow in the church hall. Cremation with private family interment at a later date. For those who wish, donations may be made to The Dorothy Ley Hospice.
