Obituary of Frances Lillian Carnell
Carnell, Frances Lillian, age 78 of Glen Road, Antigonish County, passed peacefully away at home on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 after a lengthy illness, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in St John’s, Newfoundland on September 4, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Jessie Barnes. Frances was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. She loved reading and was an avid bingo player until her loss of sight left her restricted. She was kind, quick witted and had a great sense of humour. She enjoyed travelling and was always up for a road trip.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, John; her daughter Tina; her grandson Zachary, who was the love of her life, who she affectionately called her little trout, all of Antigonish. Left to mourn are her sister Ruby (Tom) Kavanagh; brothers Art (Jill) Barnes; Morris (Dianne) Barnes, all of St Johns; David (Marion) Barnes of Rushoon, Newfoundland; sisters in law Margaret (Len) Yagilashek; Shelley (Bernard) Carnell, both of Ontario; Anne Marie (Ed) MacNeil of Regina, Saskatchewan; Therese (Raymond) MacGillivray; Bernadette MacDonald; brother in law Michael (Margaret) Carnell, all of Antigonish; lifelong friend Annie Smith, as well as a large circle of family and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents Arthur and Jessie Barnes; sister Sandra Barnes; parents in law John and Alyce Carnell; brothers in law Tom Kavanagh; Jerry Murphy; Bernard Carnell; and lifelong friends Shirley MacDonald-Harris; Gloria Andrews-Dorey.
Cremation has taken place. At her request, there will be no visitation or funeral services. A celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of St Martha’s Regional Hospital, the Red Cross, VON or a charity of choice.
She will be dearly missed.
