BONGIOVANNI, Francesco Antonio – After a beautiful life God called upon Francesco to Heaven on Tuesday November 14, 2023 at the age of 91. Loving and forever devoted husband of 59 years to Elvira (nee Iamarino). Cherished by his daughter Rosella (Tony) Armenti and adored Nonno to his precious granddaughters Simona and Loreana. Dear brother of Lina (Nicola) Calindro, of Italy and brother-in-law Angelo (Sue) Iamarino. He will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and cousins in Italy, Niagara and Toronto area. Predeceased by his parents Vincenzo and Rosina (nee Bernardi) Bongiovanni, brother Salvatore Bongiovanni, parents-in-law Salvatore and Maria Libera (nee Mascia) and Libera Iamarino. Francesco was a third-generation barber, who learned his trade at the young age of 13 at his father’s barbershop in Lamezia, Calabria Italy. He quickly took over when his father fell ill to care and provide for his mother, sister and brother during and after the war. His salon was the center for reunion and conversation and was located in the town center Piazza Fiorentino. Francesco immigrated to Canada in 1964 to marry his love, Elvira. He began his salon business in Niagara Falls. He articulated well in conversations of politics, history and debating – all while providing his clients with the traditional straight razor wet shaves and hot towels. His salon was the meeting grounds and gathering location for all gentlemen during the 1960’s. He continued to work until 85 years old. Francesco was a man of faith and hope, he instilled his values of compassion through his actions. He never turned down a call to those in hospital or nursing home who needed a haircut. He did this and took nothing in return. He was a man with a big heart, a true gentleman throughout his life. He continued his charity to St. Anthony’s orphanage in Italy all while in Canada. We will miss him dearly and always hold him close to our hearts. He has left us with his legacy that will shine bright through his most cherished treasures his two granddaughters, Simona and Loreana. Thank you to Meadows of Dorchester for their care. Special thanks to Cheryl, Barb, Ruby, Brandy who new him from the start Jenny, Rita, Diane, Philip, Jackie and all the caring PSW staff. Friends are invited to join the family at the PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME, 6062 Main St, Niagara Falls, visiting Sunday November 19, 2023 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday November 20, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. Patrick’s Church, with the Rite of Committal to follow at Fairview Mausoleum.
