Frances Rosemary Loney died on Tuesday June 18, 2024, in hospital. She was born on April 14, 1937, to Frederick and Rose Jones (nee Wooler) in Fort William, Ontario.
After high school, she worked at numerous jobs, retiring as a keypunch data operator for Manitoba Telephone System (MTS). A few years later, she moved back to Thunder Bay to enjoy her retirement which didn’t last long. Looking for a way to get involved with people and to keep herself busy, she volunteered at Founders’ Pioneer Village (now the Oliver Paipoonge Heritage Park) and then later at the Thunder Bay Museum.
For her volunteer services and community involvement, she was a recipient of Cultural Supporter of the 2010 Annual Thunder Bay Arts and Heritage Awards for her work at Founders Museum, and a Good Citizen Award recipient (outstanding volunteer) for the Citizens of Exceptional Achievement 2014 annual award. Fran also had time to organize fundraising barbeques and assist other organizations in applying for grant monies.
During her much-needed time to relax, Fran could be found in the backyard, her favourite place to be. Sitting in her rocking chair with book and coffee close by, she enjoyed having friends come by and watched the occasional chipmunks and small birds that frequented the yard.
Predeceased by her parents and infant brother. Survived by her daughter Linda Bukovy.
As per her wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private interment is planned.
Thank you to Curans Heart Centre, Thunder Bay Regional Sciences Hospital, The Walford staff and Drs Sandoval and Skunta for taking care of Fran. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation – Cardiac Care.
