Frances (Fenny) Jeeninga (van Boven)
March 23,1932 – April 25, 2024
Every beautiful life eventually comes to an end. On April 25, 2024, at the age of 92, our dear Mom, Oma and great Oma passed from her earthly life into glory to meet her Heavenly Father. She left this world knowing she was loved and we knew she loved us. We hold onto the wonderful memories we have been blessed with.
Left to treasure Mom’s memory are her five daughters, Claire, Netty (Sam), Sylvia (John), Yvonne (John) and Irene (Roger). She was Oma to 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren: Eric; Mark (Shantel), Nixon; Renee (Andrew), Claire, Mia; Glenn (Cass), Ben, Colton, Madisyn; Alyssa (Theo), Cade, Orin; Sheri (Daryl), Beckham, Brielle, Everly, Cohen; Rheanne (Ian), Jase; Corrine; Dayna; Robyn; Charlene (Cory), Weston, Rylie, Alyza; Darcy (Grant), Isla, Myles; Jeremy and Evan (Danielle). She is also survived by two brothers, John van Boven (Jeanette) and Paul van Boven (Agatha) as well as brothers and sisters-in-law, Jan Jeeninga, Ina Jeeninga, Ans Jeeninga, Roelof Zwiers and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is predeceased by her parents, husband Boyd, an infant daughter, son-in-law Fred as well as numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Mom was born on March 23, 1932 in Heerlen, The Netherlands. She was the oldest of three children born to Rein and Clara van Boven. She completed her education and had her first job in Heerlen before immigrating to Canada. She left with her parents and her brothers John and Paul in September of 1954. They flew to Montreal and then took the train to Transcona where they were sponsored by Tante Jo and Oom Roel. Dad had arrived shortly before Mom and they were married on August 25, 1955. Together they shared 66 years of marriage and raised their family.
Mom and Dad rented an apartment on Yale Ave. in Transcona where their family began. Sadly, they lost their first daughter at birth in the fall of 1956. In 1958 they were blessed with another daughter, Claire. In the spring of 1959 they moved to a house on Leola St. and were blessed with four more girls. Together they raised their family and lived there for just over 59 years. Their family grew from two to fifty-one.
Although Mom did work for a time before her babies were born, she was content to be at home looking after her girls. Family was so important to her and she lovingly took care of her family as well as her aging parents and in the later years her grandchildren. Her door was always open, especially Sunday mornings for coffee after church.
Mom enjoyed holidays at the beach. We have wonderful memories of renting a cabin at Grand Beach and at Clear Lake. Although Mom never drove, she was always ready to hop in the car with Dad and take a trip. Of course many of those trips were to Smithers to see Sylv, John and the girls. Other trips were with John and Jeanette and many were just the two of them. They drove from the east to the west coast, down the west coast to California and home again. It was always good to be home! Mom and Dad were also able to travel to Holland several times to see extended family and travelled through much of Europe with them. There were also the trips to Grand Forks that Mom made with her cousins. That was always a good time!
Mom and Dad were members of Transcona Christian Reformed Church since they arrived in Canada. She was active in the Ladies Aid, volunteered with the Willing Workers of Calvin Christian School and also volunteered as a cook for Bible Camp. She had so many wonderful stories about camp.
Mom also enjoyed reading, doing sudoku puzzles and playing games. If she got away with a “good cheat” she would laugh! She also shared some crazy laughs with her brothers! What a group those three were!
Mom also loved to shop! We can confidently say she could out-shop most of us! Favourite stores, Eatons , The Bay and Polo Park.
On Nov. 2, 2018 Mom suffered a stroke and spent her remaining years at Concordia Place. It was a difficult time for all of us, but after a while it began to feel like home. Thank you to all the staff for your excellent care, love and support during Mom’s stay with you! So many of you took care of her and built a relationship with her. She had her favourites, but in many ways you were all her favourites. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You did well!
We would also like to thank those that made regular visits to mom, she treasured those visits.
A private interment will take place on Monday, May 6, 2024 at Sunnyside Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, May 6, 2024 at 12:00P.M. at Transcona Christian Reformed Church, 131 Victoria Ave. W., Winnipeg, MB.
Pastor Brian will be officiating the service.
