In loving memory of Frances Elsie Campbell who passed away on November 20, 2023.
Fran was born to Dominic and Viola Santangelo on September 19, 1942, in Detroit Michigan. As an only child, she has many happy memories of time with her extended Italian family. From a young age, she was determined to carve her own path in the world and led an independent life as a working, single mother. She ventured west with her sons Andrew and Dominic, where circumstances led her to the Cariboo region of British Columbia where she met and married Bob Campbell of Hawkins Lake in 1981.
Fran worked for the Tsq̓éscen̓ First Nation (formerly Canim Lake) from 1982 – 2007 where she was warmly welcomed and was honoured to contribute to community events and art shows throughout her career. Fran’s family thanks the community for the support and the friendship they have given Fran throughout her career and after her retirement. Being “Granny Franny” to many meant so much to her.
Fran was active in her community through the ladies’ lunches, hosting holiday gatherings for friends and neighbours, and her involvement with the Hawkins Lake Volunteer Fire Department where she was happy to host the yearly summer fundraising event. She will be remembered for her generosity, feisty Italian spirit, love of gardening, games nights with friends, cooking her famous spaghetti and beef soup for everyone, shopping stamina and laughing until she cried.
She loved cinema and shared her love for movies from all genres and eras with her children and grandchildren. These words from her favourite movie capture her independent spirit: “There’s only one person in the world who’s going to decide what I’m going to do and that’s me!” – Citizen Kane.
Fran is survived by her husband Bob Campbell; sons Andrew and Dominic Santangelo; daughter Emmy McMillan. She took so much joy in being Grandma to Andrew, Jacob, Ethan and Frances Santangelo, and Hazel and Finn McMillan.
Fran’s family would like to thank the staff of Royal Inland Hospital and Trinity Hospice Centre in Kamloops B.C. for the care and compassion with which they treated Fran in her final days. We are incredibly grateful for their kindness and support.
While Fran is no longer with us, we know she is safe in heaven, wrapped in her mother’s loving arms.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday November 26th at 11 am, Forest Grove Hall, 4489 Eagle Creek Rd, Forest Grove B.C.
