1928-2023
Remembering
Frances Amelia (Amy) Fairgrieve
March 25, 1928 –
April 8, 2023
With sadness and gratitude for a life well lived we announce
the passing of Amy Fairgrieve at the Carleton Manor, her home for the
past 4 years, on Saturday, April 8, 2023.
Amy was born in MacIrvine, Fort Frances, Ontario to her
parents, the late Nettie and Frank Hubert, and raised in Sheffield by
the late Gordon and May Stewart.
Amy attended school in Sheffield and high school in Galt,
Ontario. Following business school Amy got the first job she applied
for, in a large office where she met her future husband of more than
fifty years, Gordon Fairgrieve.
They had 3 children, Fran, Brian and Stewart. The family
moved to Hartland in July of 1966 when they purchased The Observer
Newspaper, and Amy returned to the workplace beside her husband after
20 years as a homemaker. She liked meeting people and always felt
Hartland was a wonderful place to live.
Amy is predeceased by her parents, her husband Gord, son
Brian and precious grand daughter Tricia. She is survived by her
daughter Fran (Lloyd Jones) of Coburg, ON, son Stewart (Necedah) of
Hartland, daughter-in-law Anna. Grandchildren, Nathan (Jen) Jones of
Mississauga, ON, Matt (Delta) Jones of Ottawa, ON, Mandy Robson of
Coburg, ON, Meredith (Greg) Walton of Simonds, Erin (Jeff) Jones of
Woodstock, Holly (Nathan) Berg of Edmonton, AB, Stewart Fairgrieve Jr.
of Somerville, Andrew (Molly) Fairgrieve of Fredericton, Abbey (Corey
Lawrence) Fairgrieve of Jacksonville, 20 beloved great grandchildren
as well as countless friends, especially Elta Rideout and co-workers
from the days at the Observer.
Amy was a life time member of the Hartland Women’s
Institute, member of the United Church Women, Home and School, St.
John Ambulance, the Town of Hartland Advisory Committee and other
community organizations.
Amy enjoyed knitting, cycling and reading and happiest in her
garden surrounded by flowers, vegetables and her dog.
Mom’s Garden
The kiss of the sun for
pardon,
The song of the birds for mirth,
One is
nearer God’s heart in the garden,
Than anywhere
else on earth.
A public visitation will be held at the Britton Funeral Home,
2 High Street, Hartland on Friday, April 28, 2023 from 12:00 to 1:00
p.m. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 1:30 p.m. The
interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Hartland with her
grandchildren serving as her pallbearers. In lieu of flowers a
donation to the Greenwood Cemetery would be appreciated. The family
wants to express a special thanks to all the staff at Carleton Manor.
