Florence May Carter,
99, passed away with loving family at her side on June 5, 2024, in
Soldier’s Memorial Hospital, Middleton, NS. Born September
30, 1924, in Aylesford, she was a daughter of the late Robert and
Nellie (Turner) Keddy.
She was a lifelong
volunteer who believed in helping others in the community and in her
church. She volunteered with the Red Cross, taught Sunday School, was
a long time member of the Altar Guild, sang in the church choir, was
treasurer of the ACW for 40 years, gave blood, square danced, was
secretary of the Berwick Food Bank for many years, a member of the
Kings West PC Association, and for many years, was a well-known
feature at the dessert table (with her sister, Esther) at the Christ
Church luncheons.
She is survived by her
daughter, Linda (Gerry) Hiltz, Coldbrook; son, Michael (Louise)
Carter, Kentville; sister, Marguerite Field, Wolfville; sister-in-law,
Linda Keddy, Berwick; grandchildren, Heather (Gregory) Wagner, Angela
(Allan) Shay, Megan Hiltz (Tom Power), Margot Hiltz, Rebecca (Robert)
Parks, Janice Sanford (Shawn Scott), Lori Carter, Andrew Carter, Erin
Carter (Adam Armstrong), Michelle Carter (David Strenger); 12 great
grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and many special and kind
friends.
Florence had a circle
of family and friends who loved her and she loved them. She took great
joy in being included in their activities and
celebrations.
She was predeceased by
her husband, Gordon; sons, David and Lindsay, daughters-in-law,
Frances and Freda; sister, Esther; brothers, Alfred, Morris, Henry,
Gordon, Dorn, and Alden.
There will be no
visitation by request. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m.
on Friday, June 14, 2024, at Christ Church Anglican, Berwick, Reverend
Dorothy Miller officiating. A reception will follow in the church
hall. Interment will take place in the Berwick Cemetery. A video
webcast of the service will be available on Saturday, June 15, 2024.
Donations in memory may be made to Christ Church Anglican, Berwick,
the Berwick Food Bank, or a charity of your choice. Funeral
arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and
Cremation Services, Kentville.
