Peacefully at Extendicare Port Hope in her 101st year, Florence Mrgaret Waller passed into the arms of God peacefully on Tuesday, October 10, 2023. Margaret was the beloved wife of the late Milton (Mike) Waller, deceased 2000. She was the longest surviving child of Florence Eva an Frederick Foster and their only daughter. She had five older brothers. Mom and Dad were married in Toronto in 1946 upon his return from WWII and had 54 wonderful years together. They spent half their married life in Port Hope, moving to the Dale Road in 1973, where she and Mike owned, lived at and operated Waller’s Variety until 1985 when they moved to Cobourg and resided at Falcon Towers Apts., until Mom’s move to long term care in 2017. Margaret was a 50 year member of the Cobourg Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and a champion dart player. She was a wonderful cook, an avid reader, seamstress, and loved knitting, crocheting and the Toronto Blue Jays. Margaret’s last few years were spent at Extendicare Port Hope. She received the best and most compassionate care anyone could ask for. With our eternal gratitude to everyone at Extendicare, in particular PSW Kiera, RPN Dean and all the other PSW’s and nurses in Mowat Wing. We could not ask for a more caring place for Mom as all of the staff treated her like their favourite Grandma. She leaves behind her two daughters, Gwendolyn Devaney (Tom) and Brenda Quinn (Ted) as well as granddaughters Sherry Richardson (Paeden) and Christine Devaney, six great grandchildren and two young great great granddaughters. Mom’s wishes were to have a private graveside service and she will be cremated and laid to rest beside her adoring husband Mike on Tuesday, October 17, 2023. Memorial donations would be gladly accepted for the Extendicare Residents Fund or the Northumberland Humane Society.
