Florence Jean (Davidson) MacDonald
1942-2024
It is with deep
sadness and heartfelt love that we announce the passing of Florence
Jean MacDonald (Davidson), age 82, who peacefully left this world on
November 28, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones.
Born in Coalburn,
Pictou County, Florence was the daughter of the late Herbert and
Catherine (West) Davidson. She is predeceased by her infant sister,
Ann, but leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memory
forever.
Florence will be
deeply missed by her devoted husband of 60 years, Barry; her children,
Scott (Diana), Brad (Cathy), and Heather (Craig); and her beloved
grandchildren, Eden, Samuel, and Alexander, who brought her immense
joy and pride. She is also survived by her siblings: Fergus (Angela),
Linda (Michael), Stewart (Marlene), David (Anna), and Arthur
(Roseanne), as well as many nieces and nephews, all of whom she held
dear.
Florence’s
life was rich with love and devotion. Her quiet strength, courage, and
faith were the foundation of her character. She was known for her
compassion and generosity, always putting the needs of her family and
friends before her own. Florence’s greatest joy came from
caring for and nurturing those she loved, and her warm, welcoming
presence will be missed by all who knew her. She is also remembered
for her wonderful sense of humor and quick wit, which could always
bring a smile and a laugh to those around her.
Florence and Barry
shared many wonderful years of travel together, visiting places like
Scotland, Europe, the Caribbean, and embarking on a memorable
cross-country adventure to Alaska. They also enjoyed wintering with
friends in Florida and had a shared love of sports, participating in
Clan Donald and the Telephone Pioneers. Most of all, they took great
delight in the achievements of their children and
grandchildren.
Florence had a gift
for showing love through food. She was an exceptional cook and baker,
always hosting dinners and preparing the annual Christmas feast for
her loved ones. She was known for her kindness in delivering meals and
treats to friends and neighbors, especially those facing hard
times.
An avid gardener,
Florence took great pride in her beautiful flower gardens. Early
mornings from spring to fall, she could be found tending her flowers,
patiently awaiting their full bloom. The sight of her vibrant gardens
was a reflection of her nurturing spirit.
Florence’s
faith was truly a cornerstone of her life, guiding and shaping her
values and actions. As a dedicated member of her church family, she
found great joy in contributing to the community. Whether
participating in church suppers, baking for teas, or sharing her voice
as a choir member, Florence’s presence enriched the
spiritual life of those around her. Her commitment was further
demonstrated by her role as a founding member of Kings Presbyterian
Church, where she also served faithfully as an elder. Her legacy of
service, kindness, and devotion remains an inspiration to all who knew
her.
The family wishes to
express their heartfelt gratitude to the church community, their
friends and neighbors, and the Valley Hospice Care team for the
compassion and support shown to Florence during her final
days.
Cremation has taken
place, and there will be no visitation. A Celebration of Life will be
held at 2pm on December 14, 2024 at Kings Presbyterian Church, New
Minas, with Reverend Calvin Burt officiating. A time for fellowship
will follow the service. A livestream will be available for those
unable to attend.
In lieu of flowers,
donations in memory of Florence may be made to Kings Presbyterian
Church, Valley Hospice, or a charity of your choice.
