Obituary
Filomena “Lina” (Feriozzo) Degli Angeli was born on March 10th, 1931, in Malito, Cosenza, Italy. She met the love of her life Francesco Degli Angeli and got married on March 10th, 1951. After just one week of being married her husband left for Canada to build a better life for them. Lina stayed behind with her in-laws and her four brothers-in-law. While she may have felt like a
stranger, they all treated Lina like a queen.
Francesco then called for Lina to join him in Toronto in 1953. They wanted to start having a family and in 1955 Lina gave birth to their daughter Mary, followed by their son Salvatore in
1956. They bought their first home at 49 Fielding Avenue which was located just north of the
Danforth. This house become full of immigrants, parents, brothers, in laws and cousins, all living together. This house is still talked about today as it brings back memories of laughter, playing cards till the late night and much more by all who lived or visited there. Even the local doctors and nurses had envisioned this house as being a hotel when so many of their patients gave 49 Fielding as their home address.
Lina did not really work much after immigrating to Canada, maybe six months or less, at a donut factory called Margrets Donuts. She was too busy looking after her two small children and being like a mother to all the relatives living with her. Lina would prepare up to seven lunches for the male family members living with them. Those lunches were not just sandwiches thrown together. They were made up of homemade bread, as the bread at the local stores was too soft
for their liking, a drink, some fruit and even the occasional dessert.
Lina enjoyed immensely working in her garden which was filled with all kinds of delicious vegetables. All her vegetables were planted in such a straight line that everyone that saw them thought that she had measured them while planting. Of course, she was always the happiest when she was able to share the bounty of her garden with her family, friends, and neighbours.
Lina and Francesco were happily married for 70 years before Francesco passed away in 2021. Although Lina enjoyed what she produced in her garden, her greatest joy was her five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Lina has been predeceased by her parents Giuseppe and Giuseppina Feriozzo. Her siblings are (late) Santo (late Emma), Tony (late Clara), Teresa (late Francesco), Rose (late Raffaele), Attilio (Lina), Mary (Fred), Gilda (Frank).
Lina will be deeply missed by her children Mary Marrelli (Mario) and Salvatore Degli Angeli (late Silvana) and her grandchildren, Laurie-Ann D’urzo (Joe), Lisa-Marie Marrelli (Hoa Tran), Christopher Marrelli (Christina), Adam Degli Angeli and Miranda Saraceno (Lucky). Adored by her great grandchildren Erika and Chelsea D’urzo, Adelyn and Kaelyn Tran, Olivia and Sienna Marrelli, Kai and Neo Saraceno.
The family owes a great deal of gratitude to the nurses, PSW’s, recreation team, office team, everyone else at Unionville Home Society and St. Justins Martyr Parish for doing an AMAZING job in taking care of our beloved Lina.
