Everett Joseph Davis Obituary
The family of Everett Joseph Davis is saddened to announce his passing on July 28th at Glenbrook Lodge in St. John’s, where he resided for the past two and a half years. Everett was a long-time resident of Stephenville having moved there with his parents in 1952 at the age of 12. To him, it was home for more than 70 years. In 1961, he met the love of his life Evelyn (nee Rowe). They married in 1963, built a home at 21 York Avenue and raised their family of three children, two daughters and a son. Everett was first and foremost a family man, a devoted husband, and father. As well, he was “Poppy” to six grandchildren whom he loved so much.
Everett was a man of deep faith and a member of Zion Pentecostal Church, where he attended regularly and served in a number of different positions over the years. He was also an active resident of his home town and served in several capacities, two of which were very dear to him. For more than 20 years, he served on the Board of Directors of the Stephenville Youth Assessment Centre, and as a member of the Stephenville Rotary Club. He loved Rotary and was very committed to the Rotary motto “Service Above Self”. He was the recipient of a number of awards in these organizations – his favourite one honouring him as a ‘true Rotarian’. Many have referred to Everett as a quiet man who treated everyone with respect. It is true he was not a man of many words but when he offered an opinion it was insightful and came from a place of deep introspection.
Everett is predeceased by his parents Bertha and Josiah Davis, and his eight siblings Fred (Emma), Marjorie (Wilson), Florence (Leo), Clyde, Sam (Dorothy), Anne (Bill), Carol and Glenys.
He leaves to mourn: his wife Evelyn of 61 years; two daughters – Debra (Thomas) and Barbara (Geoffrey); one son – Keith (Tracy); and six grandchildren – Hannah, John, Noah, San, Brandon and Cara. He also leaves a number of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends, including Mary-Lou and Darrell Russell-Chipp.
The family wishes to extend sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff at Glenbrook Lodge for their exceptional care. They treated Everett like family and we couldn’t have asked for more.
Visitation will take place at Russell’s Funeral Home in Stephenville on Thursday, August 1st from 7-9pm. The funeral service will be held at Zion Pentecostal Church on Friday, August 2nd at 2pm. A reception will follow in the church annex and we welcome all family and friends to join us. Interment will take place on August 3rd with family only.
Donations in Everett’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
“Our lives will never be the same without him”
