Everett Martin Obituary
It is with the greatest joy and sorrow that we come together to celebrate the life of Everett Clinton Martin. Everett is survived by his three daughters: Bonnie Daniels (Dave), Donna Thebeau (Brian) and Karen Adam (Bob). Everett was predeceased by his wife and lifelong friend Heather Theo Martin, as well as their son David Martin.
Everett is also survived by 11 Grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren, as well as many friends that he has influenced throughout his life.
Everett was born on August 15, 1932, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, to James and Alice Martin, into a family of 7 children. The family spent their early years in Saskatchewan and later relocated to the Edson area in Alberta.
Everett met the love of his life, Heather MacPherson, and on May 10, 1952, they were married In Edmonton, Alberta. The love and respect they shared lasted for 71 years until Heather’s passing December 8, 2023.
Everett loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, berry picking, fossil finding, mushroom picking, just about anything that God’s natural world had to offer. The great outdoors never failed to capture Everett’s interest. His happiest moments were spent learning about all of these things and then being able to pass that knowledge on to those he loved, children, grandchildren and friends.
Everett and Heather moved the family to Cadomin in 1962, to pursue careers in the mining industry, right in the mountains and foothills he was to grow to love and know like the back of his hand. Everett and Heather both knew the value of passing on their knowledge of gathering, preserving and sharing food from the wilds as well as their ever-abundant gardens. Many a long night was spent with the family preparing and preserving after a long day of gathering.
Throughout his career, Everett would become an accomplished Welder, Blaster and Inventor. He did not always have the resources that would allow him to build all of the things his mind would think of, so his resourcefulness would kick in, and he would gather the things he would need wherever they could be located. Treasures were to be found at abandoned mine sites, discarded railway equipment, local dumps, which also just happened to be a great place to learn more about bear behavior. He would then take these treasures and create things from spring-fed fish tanks to gold dredges, just to name a few.
After Everett retired from the mining industry, he had a chance to follow a dream of being a big game outfitter. With the help of his good friends and family, he spent even more time doing what he loved, making new friends of people from all over the world, and thereby earning the name of Everett Martin The Bear Man.
Everett was always available if you needed an extra hand and was happy to assist Heather with her volunteer work in the community. He learned from doing throughout his life, and his abundant treasure of knowledge lives on through his family and friends.
There is joy in our sorrow, for we know we will see him again, in the presence of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Dunamis Centre in Edson, Alberta, on Saturday July 6, 2024, at 1:00 PM.
