Obituary
Passed peacefully away on October 12th, 2024, surrounded by the friends and family that she adored, and who returned that love and adoration to her.
Predeceased by her husbands Llewellyn Drover (1992) and Robert Batten (2014).
Leaving to mourn her passing are daughters Rona O’Rielly (Tom) and Roxane Jackson (Derrick); grandchildren Laura O’Connell (Matt), Kathryn Scott (Mat), Scott O’Rielly (Bethany Kean) and Chloe Jackson (Matt O’Donaghey); great-grandchildren Georgia and Nolan Scott; sister Martha Jones; sister-in-law Violet Drover; brother-in-law Nigel Drover; brother and sister-in-law Lloyd and Phyllis Drover; and Bob’s sister Kim Catalano (Pete).
Evelyn was devoted to her family, church, community and most recently to her friends at Bishop’s Gardens. Evelyn’s extended family; nieces, nephews and cousins all played a special part in her life. She made every effort to attend everyone’s events, celebrations and stayed in touch with those who didn’t live close by. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
Evelyn was well known for her love and kindness towards everyone she encountered. There wasn’t anything that she wouldn’t do for the people she held near and dear to her heart. Her devotion to family (and those like family) and nurturing heart led to the blessing of family members living with her and Llewellyn throughout the years, some for a year and others much longer, including; Pop Drover (father of Llewellyn), Grenfell Letto (nephew), Sheila Parrill (niece), Ronald Letto (nephew) and Peggy Welsh (cousin). There were also many who entered her home as a stranger (boarder) but who left as family.
Evelyn was well-known for offering tea and food in her home, where a reply of “No thanks!” was never an accepted response. If you have stepped into her home, you have most certainly been a recipient of this authentic hospitality and kindness.
Church has always played a significant role in Evelyn’s life. From a tender age, she attended services, sat on many committees, always eager to serve and help others.
Over her 80 years, Evelyn has been an active volunteer and member of her community; the ACW, Ladies Council, LOBA, 50 plus club, GFS, Red Cross, Dart League, Card Club, etc. She was often called upon in the community to assist with the sick and dying, as well as tending to those in need, be it a warm, cooked meal, mending clothing, comforting a grieving, lonely heart or to organize charitable events.
Special thanks to the staff at the Leonard A. Miller Center PCU, as well as Dr. K. Burrage, Dr. C. Murray, Dr. Lester, Dr. Pochini, Dr. Mehta, long-time family physician Dr. F. Leung and homecare staff, Hope and Christiana, from A New Beginning.
Visitation for Evelyn will be held from the Parish of The Epiphany, Heart’s Delight-Islington, on Tuesday October 15th, 2024, from 2-9pm.
A funeral service to celebrate Evelyn’s life will be held from the Parish of the Epiphany, Heart’s Delight-Islington, on Wednesday, October 16th, 2024, at 2pm. Interment to follow at St. Matthew’s Anglican Cemetery, Heart’s Delight-Islington.
Flowers are gratefully accepted. Donations in Evelyn’s memory may be made to The Gathering Place, a charity that held a special place in Evelyn’s heart.
