Born: November 9th, 1937 in Kabakaburi, Pomeroon, Guyana.
Resided: Milton, Ontario, Canada
Our dear mother, mother-in-law and grandmother, Evelyn Marguerita Gumbs, sadly but peacefully passed away at home on Dec 28th, 2023, at the age of 86, in Milton, Ontario. She was a wonderful mother, mother-in-law and grandmother who was always there when we needed her. Evelyn had many friends and was well-loved. She was a member of New Life Church Milton. With the peaceful passing of Evelyn and her being in the presence of the Lord, she is reunited with her husband, Charles Gumbs, who went on before her on May 26, 1995.
Evelyn attended the Teachers Training College in Guyana. After teaching for many years, she retired as a Deputy Headmistress/Principal. Evelyn’s pride was in her school and students; she shared her passion for learning with thousands of children over the years.
Evelyn had the uncanny ability to find happiness in her daily activities. Her pleasant and peaceful personality was contagious to everyone she met.
She will be sadly missed by her son Michael (Rushelle); her granddaughters Gabby and Ava; her surviving siblings Florence, Compton, and Gloria; her brothers and sisters-in-law Pam, Rita, Gordon Gumbs, Godfrey, Hilda, and Ivy; her many nieces and nephews including Gordon Drakes(Lisa), Paula, Compton Jr., Coleen, Steve, Karen, Ann, Robert, Monica, Rowena, Carlyle, Denise, Ken, Shaun, Dawn, Lorraine, Gillian, Julias, Collin, Rawle, Karen, Eldon, Maxine, Oswald, Verlyn, Wayne, Simone, Pellon, Freddy, Melinda, Donna, Anthony, Alex, and Andrew; her friends, the Verwey’s, the Martin’s, the Latchmansingh’s, the Frasers, the Tracey’s, the Chapmans, the Rutherfords, the Hendrickson’s, the Gittens, the Clarkes, Michael Bess, the Alstrom’s, and the Sue-wah-sing’s.
Evelyn is now home with the Lord, and with faith, we celebrate the hope of resurrection, which is also available for all.
The viewing and funeral service will be on Thursday, January 4th, at the McKersie & Early Funeral home, 114 Main St E, Milton, ON L9T 1N5.
Viewing: 10 am to 12 pm.
Funeral service: 12 pm to 1 pm.
Following the funeral service, Evelyn will be interred at the Milton Evergreen Cemetery, 230 Ontario St S, Milton, ON L9T 2M9.
