Eva Louise Burke,73, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.
Born on September 20, 1950 in New Waterford, NS, she was the beloved daughter of Freddy and Gioconda (Gatto) Gaetan.
Eva was a devoted wife to John; a loving mother to Rachael (Rob), Blaine (Kelly) and Catherine (Kirk); and a cherished Nona to Noah, Eva, Grayson and Avery. Eva was a dear sister to Rosie Casagrande, Gloria Peach, Benny (Julie), Guido (Marion), Johnny (Cathy) and Michael (Sharon).
She was predeceased by brother, Richie (Theresa) and sister, Veronica (aka Snookie); sisters-in-law, Marguerite (Michael) and Edith (Guido); brothers-in-law, Ermano (Rosie) and Doug (Gloria).
Eva loved spending time with her Gaetan and Burke families. She loved the gatherings and celebrations, where she could share laughter, stories, and memories with all her loved ones. Family was at the heart of Eva’s world, and she treasured every moment spent with her loved ones. Whether it was gathering around the dinner table or embarking on memorable vacations.
Eva enjoyed a monthly tradition with her close-knit group of friends, the «Tea Ladies.» They reveled in each other’s company, savoring the simple pleasures of life over cups of tea and heartfelt conversations.
One of Eva’s greatest joys was spending time with her cherished friends, whom she affectionately referred to as the «3 Musketeers.» Together, they embarked on countless adventures, sharing laughter and tears.
Eva leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and generosity that will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Rest in peace, Eva (Mom). You will be forever missed and eternally loved.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service to celebrate Eva’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024 in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford with Rev. Myrna MacMullin officiating. All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend and pay their respects. A reception will follow in the funeral home reception centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke and/or Palliative Care units at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in memory of Eva.
