Eva Sock
1948-2023
ELSIPOGTOG, NB – Eva (Levi) Sock 74, of Elsipogtog
passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at the Dr.
Georges-L. Dumont University Hospital Center, Moncton, on Saturday,
January 28, 2023. Born in Big Cove, she was the daughter of
the late Peter Levi and late Marion (Sanipass) Levi. She attended St.
Anne’s Roman Catholic Church in Elsipogtog,
NB.
Eva was extremely dedicated to working for her home community
of Elsipogtog and for the betterment of all Indigenous people. She
worked in various professional capacities. She worked as a Band
Manager and was currently working at the Elsipogtog Health and
Wellness Center as Primary Health Care Manager. The impact of
Eva’s work has a far reach which also includes participating
in numerous committee works involving justice and policing. Eva was
honored by the Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police on
Friday, January 27th, 2023, recognizing her
work with creating awareness with the RCMP in areas of the Truth and
Reconciliation Process, issues faced by Indigenous People and cultural
awareness.
Eva was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great
grandmother, aunt, sister and friend to many. Eva and her late
husband, Harry, loved to dance and loved their family very much. Their
grandchildren and great grandchildren were their source of joy and
they would make sure to be present for important events for all. Eva
approached her life, personally and professionally with insurmountable
integrity, thus she was a very well-respected role model. Everyone who
met Eva would be guaranteed a lasting impression of her knowledge,
wisdom, kindness, and love. Eva had a natural ability to encourage
people to be the best version of themselves. She will be greatly
missed for that genuine gift of uplifting and inspiring people near
and far.
Eva will be sadly missed by her two sons, Derek Sock
(Kirbie), Larry Sock (Jenilee); daughters-in-law, Sue Anne Sock, Starr
Paul; 24 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
She is also survived by four sisters, Margaret Simon (late
George), Claudia Simon (late Arthur), Doris Copage (late Sylvester),
Sylvia Jadis (Peter) all of Elsipogtog; four brothers, Peter Levi
(Fran), Charlie (Laura), Terry (Anna) all of Elsipogtog, Franklin
(Adele) of St. Catharines, ON, adopted brother, Wayne Solomon (Laurie)
of Minto and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved
husband of 53 years, Harry Sock; her son, Jonathan Craig
«Jumbo» Sock, who passed away suddenly on April
3rd, 2021, when his fishing vessel
«Tyhawk» tragically capsized; and one brother, Dean
Levi.
Visitation will be held at her home, 91 Riverside Drive,
Elsipogtog beginning on Thursday at 2:00 pm until time of the
funeral. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday,
February 4th, 2023 at 2:00 pm, Ste.
Anne’s Roman Catholic Church in Elsipogtog.
For those who wish to donate, donations may be made to the
Canadian Liver Foundation – Atlantic Canada Chapter, in Eva
Sock’s memory.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the
Dr. Georges-L. Dumont University Hospital Center staff and her medical
team.
We remember Eva with her signature
quote: «If it is to be, it is up to
me.»
Arrangements are in the professional care of
Thompson’s Funeral Home in Richibucto (523-4252).
