Eugene Joseph Jasinski passed away peacefully at Maplestone Enhanced Care in Halifax on December 9th, 2024 at the age of 95.
Gene was born on May 26th, 1928 in Adams, Massachusetts. After graduating from Adams High School, he joined the U.S. Air Force and was deployed to North Africa as a communication specialist. After service, he was inspired to attend St Francis Xavier University where he excelled in electrical engineering studies which he completed at Tech. He met Helen Gillis in Halifax; they married at Saint Mary’s Basilica in 1960. After completing his bachelor’s in electrical engineering, Gene worked for Imperial Oil as a sales executive. In the mid ‘70s, he started his own building supplies business, which he ran until retiring in the early 1990s.
Gene was a parishioner at Saint Thomas Aquinas in Halifax and, later, at Saint Peter’s Church in Dartmouth. He loved music and in his later years enjoyed attending live music events ranging from opera to the Rolling Stones. Gene had a generous heart, a curious mind, and loved engaging conversations and big ideas. He was well known for saying, “God Bless You” more times than can be counted.
Gene’s beloved wife, Helen, passed away in 1993. He is survived by his four children, Sophie, Margaret, Elizabeth, and Martin, and three grandchildren.
Calling hours will be 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Monday December 16, 2024 at Dartmouth Funeral Home, 29 Queen Street. Funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Tuesday from St. Peters Roman Catholic Church, 10, Maple Street, Dartmouth. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
