Obituary for
Erma Elizabeth Sitser
Erma Elizabeth Sitser, of Debert, aged 80, went peacefully to be with Jesus on Sunday, December 22, 2024 at Debert Court, Debert, NS. Erma was born on March 21, 1944 in Annapolis Royal. Daughter of the late Hartley and Catherine (Deveau) Melanson.
Erma was married to the late John Sitser for 39 years.
Erma attended Nova Scotia Teachers college and Acadia with a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Education. She taught Home Economics at Central Colchester Junior High School in Lower Onslow school for 30 years. Many people that Erma taught still practice what they learned in her class.
After her retirement she was busier than when she was teaching. Her kindness and compassion were evident in many ways, from helping people in her church and community with drives or food, rides to appointments and an active member and deacon of the Debert Baptist Church.
She was also a member and in leadership of the Truro Christian Women’s Club for many years. She was a Secretary of the Teachers Union for a time.
She also worked in dog control in Colchester County when her husband was not able to.
Erma and John loved to travel to see friends and family in Europe and Ontario. Erma continued that after John died in 2012. She also enjoyed winters in Florida with her sister and brother.
Survived by her step-children, Bill Sitser, James (Lisa) Sitser, Anna-Marie Ebener (Patrik); grandchildren, Ranine (Justin), Anya, John, Thomas (Hannah), Emily (Cody), Deana and Claudy; great-grandchildren, Landon, Stella, Ryker, Lincoln, Cameron, Lily; sister, Evelyn Gaudet; brother, Eric Melanson; sister-in-law, Alice and Henk Snoeijer; brother-in-law, Henk and Margreet Sitser; many nieces and nephews and a son at heart, Alexander Klink.
In addition to her parents and husband, Erma is predeceased by her sister, Ellen Melanson and sister-in-law, Millicent Melanson. She is also predeceased by brother and sister-in-law Henk and Gerda Velthuis and Wilhelm Sitser.
Erma moved into Parkland in May of 2020 as dementia had reared its ugly head. She needed more care and was moved to Debert Court in September 2024. At both places, Erma received the care she required, and they both became her new home with new friends. We are grateful to the staff for the care she received at both facilities. A special mention and thanks to Anne, her caregiver when she was living at Parkland. She loved her and responded so well to her.
There will be no visitation.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 10, 2025 at 1 p.m. in the Debert Baptist Church, 1273 Plains Road, Debert, Pastor Hudson Trenholm officiating. Interment to take place in the spring at Middle Road Cemetery, Debert.
The webcasting of the service will begin at 12:58 p.m. (AST) and is available along with condolences at www.ColchesterCommunity.com
You may dress with sparkles as Erma loved her clothes to be sparkly and shiny.
