Erling «Erl» Michaelsen Obituary
Surrounded by his family, Erl passed away peacefully on November 11th, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Erl was born in Vrensted Denmark to Olga and Svend Michaelsen. They came to Canada in 1949. Erl was a man of great strength, wisdom and integrity who cherished every moment with his loved ones and friends. Always a gentleman.
Erl enjoyed a successful career in environmental contracting, with an extensive range of excavation, earthwork and road infrastructure development was made possible by his keen attention to detail, strong work ethic and loyalty. These qualities made him a valuable contributor, leader and for many of his colleagues, they became lifelong friends.
Erl was passionate about old cars, motor homing, camping and sports. Erl wore purple for his Vikings.
Erl and his wife Gerry, of 50 years enjoyed living in the country in De Winton, along with their horses and award-winning German Shepherds.
Erl is survived by his wife Gerry (nee Brooks) sister Krista (Gordon) Williams and his extended family, Don and Marlene (Brooks) Bev and Gary (Alexander) Madeline and Ron (Flegel) Ken and Darlene (Mohart). Along with numerous nieces and nephews, many special friends and two beloved German Shepherds, Ottis and Nash.
Many thanks to the caregivers along his journey, especially Tatiana (Palliative Pain Consultant) who guided him through very difficult times.
A celebration of Erls life will be held in the De Winton area at a future date.
