Obituary For Erika (Ricky) Buller (Unruh)
August 27, 1935 – January 25, 2024
Our beloved mom, grandma, great grandma, and friend, Ricky Buller passed away peacefully in her home, on January 25, 2024, at age 88. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 68 years, on July 9, 2022.
Mom was born to Mr. and Mrs. John T. and Lina Unruh in Bournemouth, Saskatchewan. Her family moved to Black Creek, BC, when she was about 13. She met the love of her life, Ken Buller, in Bible College, and on July 15, 1956, they married in Black Creek. Shortly afterwards, they attended a college in Winnipeg where they continued preparations for ministry. They pastored near Winnipeg for several years. Mom was busy with children and participating in youth work and music in the church. She was a creative person with some of her interests being gardening, sewing, and music.
Mom and Dad moved to Grande Prairie, AB, in 1967, where they began pastoring at Hillcrest Mennonite Church. Over the years they welcomed more children into their home through adoption, fostering, and ministry. Soon after they moved to GP, Mom purchased a Christian bookstore, which eventually became Shepherd’s Fold Bookstore. She enjoyed and valued many new friendships through her work there. As her ministry through the bookstore developed, she became a listening ear for those who needed it and was invited to speak at various Christian conferences.
Mom was able to see the positive side of life, even in the difficult times. You’d see that twinkle in her eye, or her infectious smile. Her sense of humor and love for life made a lasting impression on whomever she met. Her passion in life was to share her love for Christ with all she met, and to help others learn to love like Christ did.
Mom was such a blessing; a jewel to be cherished. We will miss her immensely.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Mom’s honor on Friday, June 7, 2024, at 2:00 pm at People’s Church, 11850 108 Street, Grande Prairie. All are welcome.
