UME, Emeka Osita – After suffering a lengthy illness from Parkinson’s, Emeka passed away with the love of his family by his side at the St. Catharines General Hospital on Friday August 11,2023 at the age of 66. Beloved husband of 40 years to Susan ‘Sue’ (nee Bouvier) and cherished father of Chioma Ume (Brian Janosch), Emesia Ume (Lisa McIntyre), Chukwu Ume and Afam Ume. Loving grandfather of Anaya Ume and Obi Ume. Emeka is survived by his siblings, Lucy, Celestina, Margaret, Jude, Levina, Valentine and brothers in-law Robert and Daniel. He is survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his parents Ukoha and Ugodia Ume, brother Theo and brother-in-law Ken. Emeka came to Canada at 19 years of age to study at the University of Alberta where he met his love of his life Susan. He went on to complete his Pharmacy degree at North East Louisiana University and completed his doctorate in Pharmacy at the Purdue University in Indiana. He worked as a Pharmacist for over thirty years in long term care homes in the Niagara region. He was a tireless volunteer serving on many boards such as FACS, The Race Relations Board, The Niagara Falls Soccer Club and the BME Church. He founded the African Association of Niagara and served as it’s President for many years. He was an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto. Friends are invited to join the family at the PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME, 6062 Main St. Niagara Falls, visiting Friday August 18, 2023 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 9 pm. Interment with take place in Nigeria at a later date. In memory of Emeka, donations to the Parkinson Canada Super Walk would be appreciated by his family.
