Obituary
Elwood McKinley Moore, of Owen Sound, passed away at Grey Bruce Health Services, Owen Sound on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at the age of one hundred and one. Beloved husband of the late Rosalie Moore (née McConnell). Beloved father of Brian and his wife Akemi. Extremely proud Grandfather of Chris. Predeceased by his parents Thomas and Annabelle Moore (née Abra).
Elwood will be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, fellow Kiwanians, neighbours, and friends. Special thanks to Joan Cruickshank, Diane Flannery, and Judy Pringle for their caring help, not only at the hospital, but over several years for Uncle Elwood. Our gratitude to the staff of Kelso Villa, where Elwood found a second home, and to the 6th floor nurses, personal support workers, and doctors at the Owen Sound Hospital. Our appreciation to Dr. Neil Arya who advised us as a friend during father’s final weeks.
Elwood was one the founders of the Grey Sauble Conservation Authority, a past Warden of Grey County, director of the Association of Ontario Counties, past-president and sixty-plus year member of the Kiwanis Club, past president of the Owen Sound Insurance Agents’ Association, electoral returning officer, member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch #6 Owen Sound, and a member of Kilsyth United Church. He proudly served with the RAF in England as a radar technician in WWII.
Elwood was owner with Rosalie of Elwood Moore Insurance for over forty years and was passionate about serving his customers. Until the end, his secrets to long life were optimism, not worrying about the little things, and finding something to be thankful for every day. Even in hospital he remained interested in the world around him and loved talking to people.
Friends may visit at the BRIAN E. WOOD FUNERAL HOME, Owen Sound on Thursday, January 26th, 2023 from 6 – 8 p.m. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #6, Owen Sound are invited to attend a Legion Service at the funeral home on Thursday at 5:45 p.m. A funeral service celebrating Elwood’s life will be held at the BRIAN E. WOOD FUNERAL HOME, on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 2:00 p.m., conducted by Pastor Kara McCluskie. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery.
