Elvin Leonard Grudeski (El)
June 1, 1955 – June 11, 2024
El passed away peacefully in his home on June 11, 2024, at age 69.
He was predeceased by his parents (Edmund and Pearl) and three brothers (Melvin, Angus, and Curtis). He is survived by one brother Darcy (Karen), and two sisters Marlene (John) Berger and Karen (Darryl) Flatt, and sister-in-law Judy Grudeski. He is also survived by eleven nieces and nephews – Corinna (Gerry), Karlen (Kyle), Dana (Matt), Cameron (Kelsey), Megan (Jeramy), Chris (Kayla), Jeremy (Katie), Dustin (Kayley), Tara, Sean, Adam and also numerous great nieces and nephews.
El grew up in Kelwood and after graduation, he moved to Winnipeg. He worked at the Royal Bank for many years in Winnipeg and then transferred to McCreary to be closer to his parents. After the bank he was employed with Costco from 2002 until his retirement in 2020.
He always enjoyed gardening and in retirement took it to another level by growing all the transplants from seeds. He just loved to watch things grow and always planted something new every year, just to watch it grow. He loved to watch tennis and curling on tv. If his nieces or nephews sporting games were being streamed, he was an avid fan and would be setup with a cup of coffee ready to watch long before the game began. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing and was proud of the master angler walleye he caught. El loved Christmas when all the family would get together with lots of good food and laughter. He was lots of fun around the card table and even though he would good naturedly grumble about his cards, or partner in some cases, he could always work some magic with the hand he was dealt. He was an avid puzzler and reader and had a book on the go all the time. For many years he enjoyed winter vacations with his family, Dominican Republic being one of his favorites. El was an amazing cook and cabbage rolls were one of his favorites to make and enjoy. If anyone needed help, he was always quick to step up and help out wherever he could. He was a quiet person and kept to himself, but with his dry humor and quick wit, he could make anyone around him laugh.
A graveside service will be held in the McCreary Catholic Cemetery on Tuesday, July 2nd at 1:30pm. Lunch will follow in the McCreary Legion Hall.
