Parcourez la nécrologie de Elvin Black Thursday February 8th 2024 résidant dans la province Ontario pour le détail des funérailles.
The family announces with sorrow Elvin’s passing at Extendicare, Timmins on February 8, 2024, at the age of 97.
Elvin Raymond Black was predeceased by his loving wife, Doris nee Read. He was father of Ann Black (Mike Leahy), Eva Black (Robert Gibb), David Black (Kathy) and Robert Black (Patt Ward). He was a loving Grandfather to Angela and Emily Drystek and Cory and Krista Black. Elvin was predeceased by his brothers and sisters-in-law: Lloyd (Irene), Maurice (Isobel) and Bill (Kay) and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Cyril Read (Ethel). He also leaves behind wonderful nieces and nephews.
Elvin was born the fourth son to Raymond and Annie in Charlton, but was raised in Porquis Junction, upstairs of the railway station. Growing up he witnessed the transition from steam to diesel locomotion and the first passenger plane to land in Porquis. He developed a real passion for aircraft as a youngster which stayed with him throughout his life.
Having graduated from the Toronto Technical School, Elvin began work with Northern Telephone in Timmins. After he accepted a position in the young booming town of Atikokan, Ontario he and Doris set out to raise their family of four. The family moved back to Timmins in 1965, where Elvin (Blackie) continued with Northern Tel until retirement in 1987; he put in a good 42 years, witnessing the transition from switches and relays to fibre optics.
All along, Elvin was an avid camper, fisherman and model airplane enthusiast (from gas motors to radio controlled). He had a gift for tinkering with and repairing appliances and all manner of things, including a beloved Volkswagen Beetle; he could do wonders with duck tape and fibreglass.
Elvin was a life long supporter of the United Church in Atikokan and Timmins. He and Doris helped with Meals on Wheels and were proud to help support the Timmins Symphony. He was a Gentle Man with a great sense of humour and will be sorely missed.
The family wish to thank the staff of Extendicare, Big Water Section for their loving care during Dad’s last year.
Visitation will be on Tuesday February 13, 2024 from 1 – 3 p.m. followed by a funeral service at the LESSARD Funeral Chapel.
Remembrance donations can be made to Covenant United Church, the Timmins Symphony Orchestra or Doctors Without Borders. Online condolences and donations can be made at www.lessardstephens.com. The Funeral Service will also be live-streamed and can be reached by going to this website.
