Elva McLean, who lived to the age of 97, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2023, at Hill House Hospice in Richmond Hill, Ontario, with her family by her side.
On July 11, 1926, she was born in Trenton, Nova Scotia, the daughter of Jim and Kate Kenny. She was the eldest of 11 children, James, Alex, Ross, Terry, Leo, Mabel, Roy (all deceased), and is survived by Jerome, Lloyd, and Angeline who all reside in Nova Scotia.
She was married to Russell McLean (deceased) in Toronto Ontario on December 20 1947 and had five children, Larry, Linda, Sandra, Nancy and Doug (deceased) who provided her with 11 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren.
She worked for many years at Eaton’s and later at Birk’s in Yorkdale Shopping Mall. Her husband Russell worked for the TTC until retirement.
In their later years, the couple had a lot of fun spending time together at their cottage on Eel’s Lake in the Kawarthas with family, friends, and grandchildren.
She had lived alone in her Condo in Richmond Hill until recently with the expert care from her family and the support of CHATS … with the exceptional long term caregivers Jennifer and Verneka who provided care and support to her over many years … much more than we expected and were one of the principal reasons she managed to live an independent lifestyle until December of 2023.
She was moved to the Hill House Hospice in early December when her needs demanded more attention. The Hill House staff were exceptional in the care they provided to her and our family. Their care addressing her every need made her last days comfortable.
The love she had for her family will be a source of comfort for all of us.
