Obituary of Elsie Taylor
It is with great sadness that the family of Elsie Taylor announces her passing on April 27 at the age 89 years.
Mom (Grandma) was born and raised on the family farm north of Oakburn Manitoba. She went to elementary school at St. John School, after which she attended and graduated from Oakburn High School. After receiving her high school diploma, Elsie enrolled in teacher’s college in Winnipeg. Following her graduation, she returned to the Oakburn area to start her teaching career. She taught school for two years in the Rossburn area where she met her husband, Ernest Trakalo. They farmed in the Rossburn area for two years and then decided to move to Winnipeg, Dugald and later Dauphin, where they raised their family. It was while in Dauphin she was predeceased by Ernest. She then moved back to Winnipeg where she met James Taylor, who would become her second husband.
Elsie was a very social person and enjoyed participating in activities with new and life-long friends. She loved to spend time in her garden and flower beds. She bowled for many years. She played cards and bingo, solved puzzles and took the occasional trip to the casino. She was a long-time member of Holy Eucharist parish and loved to converse with her friends while making perogies.
In addition to Ernest, Elsie was predeceased by her parents Steve and Anne Manuliak, her sister Sylvia, her second husband James and her son Gerald. She is survived by her children Murray (Jane), Karen (David), and Derril (Kelly), seven grandchildren; Coralee, Johnathan, Andra, David, Brian, Alexa, Jaxon and great granddaughter Savannah.
A funeral service will be held on Monday May 6, at 10:00am, at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at Riverview Health Centre or the Canadian Cancer Society.
