Elsie Thorson Obituary
With sadness, love and thanks we announce the passing of our Loving Wife, Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma and Great-Great-Grandma. Elsie was born at Fisher Home, Alberta (Pigeon Lake), the fifth child of ten to Steve and Louise Petuh. Elsie passed in Hinton Long Term Care with her loving husband Barry by her side. Elsie was predeceased by her daughter Janice Roy, parents Steve and Louise Petuh, her sisters Jean, Rose, Dorothy, Coral and Shirley, her brothers Phil and Steve. Survived by her sisters Adelaide and Joan, son Doug Dahl, daughters Donna (Bill) Cassin, Phyllis (Joe) Tilby, son in law Raymond Roy, sons Derrick (Gwen) Thorson and Sheldon (Sherry) Thorson.
This hardworking, loving woman always put her family first, often sacrificing her comforts to ensure her family’s needs were met. Family gatherings with Mom in the kitchen lovingly preparing food and the laughter that surrounded these times will always be remembered. Her early family years encompassed many moves from town to town across Alberta, chasing work as her young family grew into four children. Working as a Cook, Waitress, Commercial Fisher, Dry Cleaner/Laundry, Laborer, Maid, Farm Helper and more, she always ensured food was on the table and warm clothes for her children.
In 1964 she met Barry Thorson and their journey together started with 2 more boys and after a couple of years in Hinton they moved to Edson where they spent 55 years as their family grew to 12 grandchildren, 21 great – grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Elsie worked as a Dry Cleaner, Bunk House Maid and for many years was Manager of the CN Bunk House in Edson. Mom again loved and enjoyed all the good times with her family and friends in Edson. Elsie shared times with her friends during Bingos at the Legion, Catholic Church, Elks Hall and the Friendship Center, Horseshoe Tournaments and Dances. Camping, Fishing, Berry Picking and any time spent with all her family were some of her favorite times. Hosting Christmas and Holidays at their 860 sq ft house in Edson with all available areas used for people to sleep as the family could include up to 26 members staying at the little house so filled with warmth and love, with Mom watching over all with pride.
Elsie/Mom will be greatly missed but her love will be felt always!
There will be a Family Celebration of Life at later date, no formal Funeral to take place.
