It is with great sadness we said goodbye to our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend Elsie Clark who passed away peacefully on July 21, 2024, at the age of 97 years in Fort Saskatchewan.
Elsie was born on November 25, 1926 in Newtownards in County Down, Northern Ireland to Mary Jane (Minnie) & John (Mickey) McKnight. At just three months old, her family immigrated to Canada by boat in hopes of providing a better life for themselves. The McKnight family settled in Islay, Alberta in 1927, eventually making Fort Saskatchewan their home in 1959. Elsie along with her husband Dave and their family continued to be active members of the community.
Elsie is survived by her sister Meta Montgomery, children Bart Clark (Lenora), Glen Clark (Valerie) and Cindi Webster (Brad), nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband David L. Clark, their eldest son Greg Clark (Ted & Ellen) and her three siblings John, Winnie and Harold McKnight.
Elsie was the matriarch of our family, she was known for her fierce love of family, kind spirit, and warm presence. She had a way of making everyone feel as if they were her favourite, some of her fondest pastimes included shopping trips to Londonderry mall, whistling in the kitchen, giving her grandkids treats when their parents weren’t watching and getting to witness her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren become good citizens.
Her last few years were spent at Rivercrest in Fort Saskatchewan. It was here that she met some wonderful people, continued to make more memories and receive the highest level of care and compassion from the staff. Elsie loved all her family and friends unconditionally, she cherished the time with loved ones, her bright smile and warm embrace will never be forgotten. As per her wishes, a cremation has taken place and a private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
