We are sad to share that our beloved mother Ellen MacLeod, 86, passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at Buchanan Memorial Hospital in Neil’s Harbour, while surrounded by family. Ellen was born November 2, 1936, in Sugar Loaf, to Flora Mae Wilkie.
She was united in matrimony to the late Bobby MacLeod. To this union, four children, eleven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren were born.
Ellen is predeceased by her sons David and Graham, grandson Mason, and her “Mama” and “Papa,” Annabelle, and Tingley McEvoy. She was also preceded in death by brothers John Neil, Stanley, Billy, Ernie, Bennett, Fred, Jim, and John and sisters Grace, Viola, Catherine, Mary, Liza, Gladys, Annie, and twin sister Tina.
Ellen is survived by her daughters Marie (Charlie) and Cathy (Bruce); grandchildren Charlene, Kendra, Bobby, Kelsi, Jenna, Logan, Drew, Ian, Nathan, and Maggi; and great-grandchildren Ian, Sarah, Tallon, Jolie, Irelyn, Isla, Caellum, Marshall, Tatum, and Jovi; Brothers Jimmy Lloyd, Lewis, and Hansel; Sisters Ruby, Freda, Violet, and Ruth. She also left behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and best friend Myrtle.
Mom truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting with family and friends, card games, gardening, cooking, pickling, and bottling jams and jellies. In the summer she could be found in a berry patch, laying on a beach, by a river, or in a chair on her doorstep sipping tea and reading a good book. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, perseverance, and optimism amid a difficult journey. She encouraged us to be fierce and is an inspiration to us all. Although Mom’s life ended before we were ready, she would want us to live on and laugh loudly. Her motto was: “Just as well to laugh than cry.” Her memory will live on forever in our hearts, minds, and souls.
We would like to thank the staff and residents of Highland Manor as well as the doctors, nurses, and staff at Buchanan Memorial Hospital, for their outstanding care. Family, friends, and others whose lives Mom touched are invited to a Celebration of Life at Aspy Bay United Church on Monday, January 9th, 2023, at 2 pm followed by a graveside committal officiated by Rev.
