Ellamae (Peppard) Fraser – 84, formerly of
Pleasant Street, Truro, and most recently of Cedarstone Enhanced Care,
Truro, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at
Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, with her devoted son, Ian
by her side. Ellamae was the daughter of the late Harvey and Helen
(Vance) Peppard. She was born in Lemington, Ontario and at a young age
moved with her family to Amherst, where she lived throughout her
growing up years. It was always Ellamae’s dream to be part
of the healthcare system, a desire she fulfilled when she became a
Graduate Nurse, completing her training at the Yarmouth School of
Nursing.
In 1964 Elllamae married her best friend and
lifelong soulmate, Jim Fraser and together they moved to various
communities within Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, Jim transferring
with the Bank of Nova Scotia and Ellamae working at numerous hospitals
in both provinces. In retirement Ellamae and Jim enjoyed traveling
throughout Canada and the USA and always returned home with
interesting and comical stories about their many
experiences.
Ellamae possessed a strong personality and never
missed an opportunity to put people in their place if she
didn’t agree with them or felt they needed to be taken down
a notch. By the end of any such exchanges she would most times have a
good laugh and give the other person a hug before walking away with
a grin of satisfaction on her face.
She had a keen ability to find a good deal at yard sales and auctions
which she and Jim enjoyed driving to in her «little red
convertible». Ellamae was an exceptionally good cook and loved
putting on a big meal for her family or friends, topped off by her
signature pineapple upside-down
cake. She
possessed a unique sense of humor which she often used to get a rise
out of unsuspecting victims who weren’t accustomed to her
comedic
antics.
Ellamae was predeceased by her husband, Jim
(2022); parents, Hugh and Helen; brother, James Harvey Peppard;
parents-in-law, Dan and Lottie Fraser; sister-in-law, Emma
Hollingsworth; brothers-in law, Don Wilkinson, Cecil McNeil, Morris
Stewart.
Ellamae is survived by her son, Ian, Truro;
brothers-in-law, Don (Carole), California; Munroe (Jane), Pictou; John
(Jill), Florida; Vern (Angela), Annapolis Valley; sisters-in-law,
Stella Wilkinson, Broadway; Marion McNeil, Westville; Donelda Stewart,
Stellarton; numerous nieces and
nephews.
Ian would like to express his sincere
appreciation for the ongoing support and messages received from family
and friends throughout this difficult time for him. As well, he passes
on heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Colchester East Hants Health
Centre for their care and compassion while looking after both his mom
and dad while there.
Funeral service will be held 12:00 p.m.,
Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at St. James Presbyterian Church, 725
Prince Street, Truro, Reverend Andrew Campbell officiating. Reception
will follow. Interment in Folly Village Cemetery, Highway 2,
Glenholme. If so desired, donations in Ellamae’s memory to Colchester
East Hants Health Centre Foundation are
welcomed.
