Ella May Cross of Cochrane, Alberta passed away at the age of
90 years on June 27, 2024 at Bethany Cochrane long-term care
facility.
Ella was born and raised in Black
Cape, Quebec, the eleventh of thirteen children of the late Alton
Edgar and Ina May (McLellan) Ward. Ella was blessed with a strong
Christian heritage and she faithfully served in Maritime churches
where her husband pastored. Photography, crafts, quilting, sewing,
crocheting, cooking and gardening were cherished activities; however,
Ella’s love of music surpassed all other interests. She
taught herself to play several instruments, led an occasional choir,
and sang with great enthusiasm—never forgetting the
lyrics—even up until her final days.
Ella was the last remaining member of her immediate family. She
was predeceased by her husband Rev. Robert Cross and is survived by
her children, Donald (Doreen), Susan (Doug) Norton, Stephen (Lori),
Nancy (Willis) Langford, as well as ten grandchildren and eleven
great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and
their families.
The family wishes to thank
the many people who supported Ella in her last years in Nova Scotia
prior to her move to Alberta. We also wish to express our deep
gratitude to the staff and volunteers—and to Sandi, Marlene
and Julia—at Bethany Care for the exceptional and loving
care our mother received there.
A service to
remember Ella will be held at White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, NS
on Sunday, July 21 at 2:00 p.m. with a light reception to follow.
Interment to follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.
