Obituary
After a long illness, Elizabeth “Betty” Stephens passed away on August 24, 2023. She was a devoted mother to her sons Craig (Sharon), Gary (Genevieve) and Kevin (Maureen) Chapman and was a doting and loving grandmother to Hailey, Alicia, Zoe, Daniel, Alexandra, and Isabel. She is survived by her sister, Hope, and predeceased by her sister, Loretta.
Betty was born in St. Catharine’s, Ontario on August 28, 1942, to Justin and Justyna “Jean” Pankiw and was raised in Niagara Falls and Toronto. She graduated from McMaster University and lived in Dundas for most of her adult life. After starting out as a teacher, she stayed home to raise her three children, after which she had a successful career at the CIBC for over twenty years. She was a warm and welcoming woman, and her home was frequently a gathering point for her sons’ friends in the neighbourhood. Betty enjoyed many activities including tennis, aerobics (it was the 80’s!) and taking long walks in nature. She enjoyed traveling and socializing with the many friends she made in Dundas over the years.
Family and friends are invited to Ridley Funeral Home (3080 Lake Shore Blvd W, Etobicoke) on Wednesday, August 30 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will begin in the chapel at 1:00 p.m. and a reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Alzheimer’s Society in Betty’s memory.
