Elizabeth Loeppky Obituary
Elizabeth (Heinrichs) Loeppky, age 82, went to be with her Lord and Saviour on August 11, 2024 at the Clover House Palliative Care, Swift Current, SK.
Elizabeth (Betty) was born, June 17, 1942, on the family farm near Pambrun, SK. To Jacob and Katherine Heinrichs – the twelfth child in a family of twelve. She was the baby of the family. Her family eventually moved to Wymark, SK., where she completed Grade 12.
Don, used to work in his parent’s grocery store where he would “sell” Betty bubble gum, winning her heart with chocolate. As they got older, they fell in love. They married on July 23, 1960, in Swift Current. They recently celebrated their 64th Wedding anniversary. They had 3 children, Betty was a loving mother, committed first to her family. Don and Betty moved to Calgary, AB. Where they both worked, before their first child was born. They decided to move back to Swift Current, where two more children joined the family, they stayed in Swift Current for a few years and then moved back to Calgary. In 1976, they moved back to Swift Current. Then in 1978, they purchased a grocery store in Herbert, SK. Loeppky’s Lucky Dollar Groceries. Swift Current once again became their home in 1986. Betty and Don moved a year-round cabin to Lac Pelletier where they lived until 2016 when they moved back to Swift Current.
Elizabeth made use of her college diploma as an Office Assistant, for many businesses in Calgary and Swift Current. Betty’s career of approximately 30 years included office manager. Betty was always hardworking and well organized. Betty and Don were active in the neighborhood community in Calgary and in Swift Current, they enjoyed Square dancing at various small town halls. Elizabeth enjoyed watching her family grow, as her children married and had families of their own. She loved to cook for her family, especially the grandkids favourite foods. Betty loved life and laughter and had a sense of humour, like having a pet goldfish in a blender. She had a positive approach to everything in life and had quiet inner strength that drew people to her. She was a special person her friends and family could always turn to. There was no end to her kindness and thoughtfulness.
Betty had many talents and gifts. She very much enjoyed cooking and entertaining, knitting slippers for everyone, flower designing, doing various crafts. She enjoyed singing in the church choir for many years. Betty was a leader in Girl Guides of Canada, a Sunday School teacher, and was a member of the ELW of the Lutheran Church.
Betty endured her children dragging many pets home, we had several dogs, Snoopy, Duffy, Marcede & Rudy to name a few. Shelly the cat was a recent addition.
Elizabeth loved camping in the summer at Lac Pelletier, Sask Landing and Cypress Hills. For a few years they went south to Arizona. COVID created a new opportunity for everyone to camp at the Mackay farm. Betty loved to have her family camping all together, even this year Betty wanted to be out at the farm at their trailer. Unfortunately, Betty did not make her annual ride down the slide into the swimming pool this year.
In October, Betty had a cough that wouldn’t go away, her doctor discovered a tumour on her lung and referred her to the Cancer clinic in Saskatoon. Where they confirmed that she had cancer in her lung. She went through several chemo treatments; in June she got pneumonia and couldn’t shake it. Betty was admitted into the hospital on July 11th to July 18. Betty was determined to get back out to the farm for camping, the doctors recommended oxygen supplement for her to leave the hospital. Her family rallied around her to bring her out to the farm. Betty once again was admitted to hospital on July 27th and later it was decided to move her to Clover House, where she lost her battle with lung cancer on August 11th surrounded by her husband, children and grandchildren.
