Elizabeth “Jessie” Day was born January 27, 1956 in Red Lake ON. Born to Bertha Linklater and Mike Day, and raised by Angus Mamakeesic. She passed away in the early morning of February 17, 2024 with her daughter and grandchildren by her side. They were her whole world.
Jessie is survived by sisters Lucy Day, Cathy Rae (Peter), Anne Meeks, Mary Meeks, brothers Sonny Manoakeesic (Melodie), Gary Manoakeesic (Andra), Marvin Manoakeesic, daughter Mary Day (Darryl Nodin Sr.), grandchildren Tyla Panchal (Nilav), Sydney Nodin (Graham), Darryl Nodin Jr. (Tisha), Jenna-Rose Nodin, great-grandchildren Ryker Nodin-Deperry, Samir Panchal, Poseidon Nodin-Deperry, Marita Panchal as well as many numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, sister Sarah Fiddler, and granddaughter Marita.
Jessie was loved by many people. She will be truly missed with her big smile, infectious laugh and warm hugs. She graduated from Windsor University with a bachelor’s in social work. She had worked many positions in her line of work including Thunder Bay Correction Centre, Tikinagan Family Services, and her most current place of work and employment was with the suboxone program in Sandy Lake First Nation. Jessie enjoyed travelling, especially with her sisters on the winter road. Her favourite thing to do was spend time with her grandchildren; playing bingo, yard sale-ing, thrift shopping and reading were her past times. She also loved to collect Raggedy Anne dolls.
Visitation will take place February 22, 2024 at Blake Funeral Home in Thunder Bay at 10am. The family will be flying back to Sandy Lake after viewing. The funeral services will be Friday, February 23, 2024 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Sandy Lake at 1pm with Sidney Fiddler officiating. Interment will follow. Our family would like to thank everyone for their continued support and kind words.
