It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Elizabeth “Bish” Ann Erin Clarke, at the Northside General Hospital, on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at the age of 79. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and a beloved nurse and friend.
Born on May 17, 1944, in Stephenville Crossing, NL, Bish was the daughter of the late Edward and Ann (Abbott) Keough. Upon completion of high school in 1962, at the former Joy Memorial High School in Port aux Port, NL, she moved to North Sydney to train as a registered nurse at the former St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing, later becoming Northside General Hospital. She graduated in 1965 and worked as an RN at the hospital for over 36 years, finally retiring in 2001. Her thirty-six plus years as a nurse brought her tremendous joy, satisfaction, fulfillment and sometimes a bit of heartache. During her retirement years, Bish loved spending time at Jersey Cove with her husband and family. She also enjoyed spending time with her two precious grandsons, whom she loved more than life itself. She always said she was the “tata” of two of the best grandsons ever born. She loved watching them grow up into the two wonderful young men they are today.
Elizabeth is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Conrad, her daughters Roschell, whom she loved dearly, and Krischa, who followed in her footsteps and became an RN, just like her mother. She was so proud of that. She is also survived by her two treasured grandsons Brendon and Steven “Stevie” Clarke, who were her entire world. Left to mourn is her brother Harold “Buster” (Deborah) Keough, and many nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Michael and her sister Frances, both in infancy. The family wish to express a special thank you to her doctor, Dr. Andrew Wawer, and the nurses on 2 West, Northside General Hospital, who took incredible care of Bish during her brief stay in the hospital. Your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.
At her request there will be no visitation or service. Arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Donations can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Palliative Care of Cape Breton.
