It is with much love and sadness that we mourn the passing of Elfriede (Elfi) Muller, peacefully at home on August 29, 2024 at the age of 91.
Forever loved and remembered by her daughters Audry Muller and Sandra Karl; grandsons Jason Karl and Ryan Karl; niece Carola King (Tom) and their sons Adam, Wesley and Eric; nephew Roland Mueller (Farida) and their daughter Sharlene; family in Germany and Wisconsin; USA; friends for over 60 years Leo and Marianna Matz and their children Harold and Rosemary and neighbours Pat and Evan Andrews. Pre-deceased by her husband of 62 years, Cord.
Born in Traunstein, Germany Elfi left home at age 16 to work as a chambermaid in Salzberg, Austria and then Munich, Germany before moving to Canada with her childhood friend, Annemie in 1957. They settled in Toronto and found employment with Loblaws, where she would work for over 25 years. In 1960 she married Cord and had their two daughters, Audry and Sandra. In 1972 they moved to Pickering and bought their first house where they would live for the next 50 years. After Elfi retired from Loblaws she enjoyed traveling to new locations (Hawaii, Cuba and the Maritime provinces were some over her favourites), returning home to Germany to visit family and friends and spending time with her beloved rottweiler, Tysa. She loved flowers and gardening and joined the Pickering Horticultural Association. She had a talent for making beautiful flower arrangements and was very proud of the prizes she won in their competitions. Elfi also loved entertaining and was a great cook and baker, and enjoyed making many wonderful family meals, especially for the holidays.
The family would like to thank the palliative team, particularly Dr. Edwards and nurse Nicole, as well as her primary personal support worker, Leah for their care and compassion during Elfi’s final days.
As per Elfi’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. If desired, donations to Lakeridge Health Ajax Pickering Hospital or St. Michael’s Hospital in her name would be greatly appreciated.
