Mary «Eleanor» Pimbert
October 7 1920 – March 6 2024
On March 6th, Eleanor Pimbert passed away peacefully at her son’s home in Adjala Township in Ontario, Canada.
Born Mary Eleanor Clark in Ottawa, 1920, she lived briefly in upstate New York until her family relocated to a peach farm in Beamsville, Ontario. In 1939, for a war time job, she came to Toronto, where she met her soulmate and husband for 45 years, Leslie “Les” Pimbert. Together, they created a quiet, loving family home in north end Toronto for their 2 children, Lynn and Ted.
She was a dedicated mother and housewife who enjoyed providing nourishing simple meals and took pride in her household tasks, especially ironing and making clothes. Evening gowns were her specialty.
A life long Christian Scientist, she was an active member of the 5th Church of Christ, Scientist in Toronto for many years and continued to listen to the Sunday Mother Church broadcast well into her 103rd year.
She was a fiercely independent, persistent and strong woman. After her husband, Les, passed in 1988, she continued to travel, swim, cross country ski and golf. She was adamant about never leaving her home of 67 years at 22 Bonnington Place in Willowdale. But at the age of 94, when that house was expropriated in 2014, she bought a 5 bedroom country home just a short walk up the road from Ted. She was thrilled to return to country life where she could regularly walk around her lovely property.
She will be remembered and missed by her children, Lynn and Ted. She will be fondly remembered by her daughter-in-law, Alison, her grandchildren, Heather and Scott, her niece Glenna Marczi and nephew Robert Clark “back on the farm” in Beamsville and other friends and extended family in Adjala, Toronto, Beamsville and Iowa.
A small family recognition of her life will occur in May. Her favourite birdbath will be placed as her memorial amongst the greenery of Ted’s backyard, alongside the memorial plaque of her husband, Les. There, we will remember them both every day.
