Elda Mary Zabirka, nee Laramie, 77 years, of Thunder Bay Ontario, passed away on June 11, 2024 with family by her side after a lengthy illness.
She will be sadly missed by husband Mike Zabirka, daughters Rose, Robin and Lori, sisters Arlene, Beth, Nancy, Jaclyn and Irene. Grandma will also be lovingly remembered by numerous relations, including 13 grandchildren.
Born in Atikokan, she moved to BC for several years and returned back to Atikokan to be with family in 1986. She worked briefly cleaning hotel rooms and also as a cook. After meeting Mike, they lived in Atikokan enjoying camping and fishing. They moved to Thunder Bay and got married in 1988, where she took a food prep course at Con-College, and secured a position in the kitchen at Hogarth-Westmount. Finally she ended up working at St. Joe’s in housekeeping, retiring in 2012.
Ellie did not want a public service, but would like any donations to go to TBRHSC Heart & Stroke program.
