Elayne Joyce «Sally» Archibald – 79, Truro,
formerly of Harmony, Colchester County. It is with great sadness we
share the passing of Sally Archibald on Sunday, October 8, 2023. Born
in Truro, she was the daughter of the late Jack Ellsworth and Ada
Armour (Retson) MacLean. Along with her parents, she was predeceased
by her first husband, Arthur Logan Archibald; second life partner,
Frank Berkelaar; son, Scott; brothers, Donald MacLean, Gerald MacLean;
nephew, Andy MacLean; niece, Ali MacLean.
Her love and caring will be greatly missed by her daughter,
Cheryl (Steve) Archibald, Lumsden, Saskatchewan; grandchildren,
Jacqueline (Archibald) Clark, Calgary, Alberta; Adam Archibald,
Yellowknife, Northwest Territories; Justin Archibald, Chetwynd,
British Columbia; brothers, Robert (Marilyn) MacLean, Mattatall Lake;
John (Karen) MacLean, Truro; several nieces and nephews and especially
her other daughter, Debbie, who called her every night and forwarded
Sal’s progress to those who were able to visit in person.
Debbie’s contribution to Sal’s progress is
immeasurable.
She was known to be the «glue» that held her
siblings together regardless of their age differences or opinions. She
was a long-time member of McCulloch United Church in Harmony where she
was active in many roles. She was a big part of the community and
always involved in fundraisers and charities. If you saw Sal coming,
it generally meant she was looking for a donation of some sort. She
supported every type of group from Heart and Stroke, Cancer, Diabetes,
STEPs on Arthur, Colchester Food Bank and volunteering at the
hospital.
Nursing was her profession; she was an RN for nearly 30 years
at Colchester Regional Hospital on the famous 4 south wing. She was
well known for her great humour and loving care of her
patients.
After retirement she remained in close contact with her close
knit nursing group of friends which included lots of laughing,
traveling and lunches. In her past time, she was either knitting her
famous mittens or washcloths for her family and friends. She loved
going to the pool and her walks which kept her active. She was a great
mom, grandmother, partner, nurse, friend and most caring individual to
everyone; she will be greatly missed.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Sally’s
family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, October 12, 2023,
and funeral service 1 p.m., Friday, October 13, 2023, Reverend Wendy
Kean officiating. Interment in Harmony Cemetery. Reception will follow
in McCulloch United Church Hall, corner of Harmony Road and Camden
Road. If so desired, donations in Sally’s memory to Heart
and Stroke Foundation or McCulloch United Church are welcomed. Public
