Obituary of Elaine Renee Chan
August 15, 1953 – Singapore
December 27, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta
Elaine Chan of Calgary, AB, was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at the age of 70 years after a life well lived. Elaine was born in Singapore.
She was not a stranger to serving her communities and leading others to serve too. She joined the Girls Brigade in her teens and eventually became a Captain of the Brigade. She was an active member of several churches in Singapore (Barker Road Methodist Church, Paya Lebar Methodist Church, Covenant Community Methodist Church, and Living Waters Methodist Church), and served where she felt the Lord called her to.
In 2007, after 25 years working in the Methodist Church of Singapore, Elaine retired and immigrated to Canada with her four children and has called Calgary home since. She continued to give back to the various communities within Calgary.
Always a passionate learner, she completed her MBA at 50. Elaine is the definition of lifelong learning. She looked forward to coming out of retirement and graduated from Makami College to become a Registered Massage Therapist at the young age of 63. She constantly sought a purpose-filled life, intentionally improving her skills to impact the lives of countless people with her impressive repertoire, unbounded energy, and joy.
Elaine is survived by her mother Peggy, and siblings Kingsley, Enid (Stanley), and Victoria. She is dearly missed by her four children Ryan (Joanna), Nadine, Valerie (David), Wayne (Lauren); and her six grandchildren, Lauren, Ian, Alison, Levi, Parker, and Taylor. She is predeceased by her father Charles.
The family would like to thank the Foothills Medical Centre: emergency staff, doctors, nurses, and caregivers of Units 46, 103, and 81 for the utmost love, care, and compassion shown to Elaine and our family over her last few days.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Celebration of Life at McInnis & Holloway (Calgary Crematorium, 3219 – 4th Street NW, Calgary, AB, within the valley of Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Friday, December 29, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.

Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mrs. Chan’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service.
