It is with sorrow that the family of Elaine Marie Aubry (nee Forsberg) announces her passing on August 24, 2023.
Elaine was born on May 8, 1943, in Port Arthur, ON, the daughter of Alice and Oliver Forsberg.
One day, Lawrence “Larry” Aubry and a friend were out driving on Oliver Road when they happened to pull up next to Elaine and her friend. The men asked the ladies if they would like to join them at Dog Lake for a swim, and they agreed. From that moment, Larry and Elaine felt a deep connection and began planning a future together. They married in Victoria, BC in 1960 and started a family.
While Larry completed his service in the Navy, the two newlyweds were blessed with a son, Larry Jr., in 1962. Larry and Elaine moved back to Northwestern Ontario and had two daughters, Cathy in 1963 and Lisa in 1966. Elaine was a loving wife and mother who never stayed idle. Her skills at sewing and knitting were unmatched – she sewed everything from her own wedding dress to her children’s clothing and more. Her handcrafted Icelandic wool sweaters are priceless treasures within her family to this day. Later in life, Elaine worked outside of the home and used her accounting and bookkeeping knowledge in the banking profession.
Larry and Elaine enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime trip on a tour of Europe for their 25th anniversary and made many memories exploring 11 countries and their culture. Their second home – their sanctuary – was their cottage near Benoir Lake. Many weekends, summers, holidays, and eventually their retirement were spent there. Elaine worked hard, taking care of not only the housework but also cutting and stacking firewood with Larry. They’d end their day with a friendly game of pool… although Larry was a very tough opponent to beat!
Family was always Elaine’s priority, and she loved spending time with anyone she met. She was instantly likeable, and her legacy lives on in all who knew her. Survivors include her husband and partner of 63 beautiful years, Lawrence D. “Larry” Aubry; children Lawrence Daniel “Larry Jr.” Aubry and Lisa Anderson (Barry); grandchildren Deanna (Scott) of Peterborough, Connor (Hailey) of Oshawa, Kristy (Kodi) of Duck Bay, MB, Kyle (Kyla), Kevin (Kat) and Kaleb, all of Red Lake; and many extended family and friends.
She was predeceased by her beloved daughter Catherine “Cathy” Haney, brother Dennis Forsberg, and her parents.
At Elaine’s request, her final resting place will be Benoir Lake. If friends so desire, contributions to the Cancer Centre would be greatly appreciated. Online condolences may be expressed at www.sargentandson.com.
