Elaine Louise Waddington (Née Robinson)
Peacefully in Halifax on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at the age of ninety-nine. Elaine was born in Montreal, the eldest child of Ben and Tony Robinson, and spent most of her life there. Always proud of holding two master’s degrees (one in biochemistry and the other library science), she enjoyed a long career as medical librarian at the Women’s Pavilion of the Royal Victoria Hospital. She also earned a diploma in computer sciences in her sixties when personal computers were in their infancy, learning to program in several languages and providing consulting services to medical libraries across Canada. Elaine loved playing early music and duplicate bridge, and solving cryptic crosswords and other puzzles. She also loved folk dancing (but hated bananas). She outlived her husband Patrick Waddington, her life partners Graham Marks and Mel Shipman, her brother Jon, and her eldest son Jim. She is survived, and missed by, her sons David and Andrew Solkin; her brother David Robinson; her sister-in-law Nicole Laflamme-Robinson; daughters-in-law Dominique Doutreligne, Gilly Archer and Rita Solkin; grandchildren Wendy, Ben, Mia, Tina, Mateo and Grace; great-granddaughter Sally; a host of loving nieces and nephews (great and otherwise); and a wide circle of friends. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Monday, November 20 at 11:00 a.m. Burial at the Memorial Park Section, Baron de Hirsch Cemetery, de la Savane. An informal shiva will be held on November 20 at 5:00 p.m. at Café Santropol, 3990 Saint-Urbain St., Montreal, H2W 1T7.
