With equal measures of overflowing & broken hearts
and family by her side our beautiful wife, mother, nana, great-nana,
sister & friend, Elaine Carter
Anderson, peacefully passed on Tuesday, July
18, 2023, in Nanaimo, BC.
Mom was born in Springhill, NS on Jun 14, 1936 to
Georgia (nee Beaver) and Lewis Farrow, was the eldest of 7 children
& grew up in a tight-knit, faith-filled family in Amherst, NS.
Mom met Dad, William (Bill) Carter, when they were teenagers at the
beach in Tidnish, NS and as Dad recalled, «the first time I laid
eyes on her I said, ‘I’m gonna marry that girl!'», and, as they
say, the rest is history!
Here’s a glimpse into that history: within a year
of marriage, Bill, Jr. was born, and shortly thereafter, Dad’s work in
forestry took the family to the west coast where new adventures began.
Over the next number of years the family grew with daughters Dawn
& Janet. During those years we lived in a variety of
communities from Haida Gwaii to Victoria & finally settling in
Nanaimo in 1973 where the family set down deep roots.
Aside from working as a cashier, for those who knew her,
Mom’s real profession was a glamour girl! She loved fashion &
had impeccable style.
While she was a true beauty on the outside, her inner self
shone brightest. She was a woman with deep devotion
& faith in Jesus & abundant love
for her family. She was our greatest encourager
& inspiration, she was a woman of compassion, shown
in the dedication of serving others, most evidently, how she
selflessly cared for our Dad when he had cancer (and passed in
1997).
Many years later, Mom was blessed with love again when she
met & married Roy Anderson, a true gentleman, who shared the
common bond of strong faith in Jesus & love for family.
Together they enjoyed spending time with family & friends
& their close church community, traveling, which always
included time at the Carter family cottage in Tidnish,
NS.
In recent years, as Mom suffered with memory issues, Roy
served her with gentleness, kindness & deep love and touched
the hearts of all who witnessed.
God has poured into our lives in countless ways
through Mom & we are thankful to Him – fully known &
fully loved.
Aside from her parents, Mom was predeceased by our Dad,
William (Bill) Carter, her siblings: Elizabeth, Douglas, Lewis
& Donna.
Left behind & Forever in our
hearts:
Husband: Roy Anderson
Children (Nanaimo, BC): William (Bill Jr) Carter (Jean), Dawn
Major (Jacques), Janet Rathy
(Chris).
Grandchildren: Torand (Jenny), Janayh (Ian), Aaron, Jean-Luc
(Paige), Andree (Adam).
Great Grandchildren: Brien, Nevaeh, Paisley, Isla &
Bowen.
Siblings (Amherst, NS): Lorraine Snow (Art), and Richard
Farrow
Brother-in-Law (White Rock, BC): David Carter
(Guy)
Roy’s family: Cheryl (Greg), Gord, Lindsay (Matt) &
Mark
Numerous and precious relatives and friends in NS, BC, and
Mexico, where Mom & Dad had traveled to since the
60’s.
A private family burial took place at Cedar Valley Memorial
Gardens, Nanaimo, followed by a Celebration of life at First Baptist
Church, 1650 Waddington Road, Nanaimo on Friday, July 28,
2023.
