ATWOOD, Eileen Gertrude – 90, of South Side, passed away at the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, on May 12, 2023. Born June 30, 1932, at South Side, she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Gertrude (Nickerson) Penney. Eileen was a devoted mother and grandmother. She often worried for people, hoping they were taking care of and especially her family. She always wanted to make sure they were doing fine and had plenty to eat. She loved spending time with her family. Where you saw her daughter, Belinda, you would always see Eileen and she would certainly make sure Belinda was alright if she was taking too long to get back to the car while grocery shopping! She also really enjoyed her cat that she inherited from Rodney, and once the cat had to be adopted by her son, Gordon, she made sure to ask about the cat and make sure he was doing well. She is survived by her daughter, Belinda (Sanford) Atwood; son, Gordon (Rose) Atwood; grandchildren, Terry (Joey) Smith, Craig (Denise) Atwood, Stephanie (Chris) Adams, Ryan (Shawnda) Atwood, Derek (Samantha) Atwood, Natasha Stoddart, David Trivett, Julie Atwood; great-grandchildren, Tyson, Kandiace, Matt, Jenna, Savanah, Rylee, Jazmyne, Logan, Alexis, Alba, Brynlee; and great-great grandchildren, Kenadie, and Devyn. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Rodney; father of her children, Samuel Atwood Jr.; companion, St. Clair Cox; great-great grandchild, Devon; and siblings, Freeman, Milton, Borden, Buema, Juanita, and Gladys. There will be a visitation held on Wednesday, from 6-8 pm, at the H. M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, Barrington, where the funeral service will follow on Thursday, May 18, at 2 pm. Interment to follow in the Old Kirk Cemetery, North East Point. Memorial donation in her name may be made to the Rosalin Nickerson Care Fund.
