September 19th, 2023 Eileen Anne Fowke passed away peacefully after a short stay in hospice in Sudbury, Ontario at the age of 84 years. Eileen will be profoundly missed by her husband of 65 years, Glenwood (Glen) Frederick Fowke and her three children, Brenda Charette (Jean Guy) Janice Greco (Bill Hicks) and Kevin Fowke (Angela). Daughter of Mary (Coghlan) and Michael James O’Malley, sister of Helen Blacklock (O’Malley) and Michael O’Malley all predeceased. Loving sister-in-law of June Morris (Norm), Lois Bradley (Bill), Gwen James (Ernie), Goldie Joy (Ken) and Claire Page (Don).
Cherished grandmother of Paul Charette (Gillian), Julianna (Andy Keith) and Andrea Greco (James Lee), Alexander, Benjamin and Mackenzie Fowke, and great grandchildren Rowan, Maren and Laina Charette.
Eileen was born and raised in Kirkland Lake. She and Glen were married in 1958 and moved to Sudbury in 1973. She was surrounded by a rich mix of family and friends in her hometown and in Sudbury. She loved her large extended family and hosted and enjoyed many family gatherings for birthdays and celebrations.
A long-time member of the Associated Canadian Travelers ladies auxiliary (the Travelette’s), she served her community through the club’s numerous charitable endeavors. She made many friendships and was grateful for the large circle of friends that she and Glen enjoyed. A devout Roman Catholic, Eileen was a frequent volunteer for funeral luncheons and the charitable activities of the Catholic Women’s League at her home parish of St. Andrew the Apostle. Eileen was a great swimmer and competitive curler in her younger days and enjoyed many games and tournaments as a member of Cedar Green Golf Course. She was an avid sports fan and almost every day was a “game day” for she and Glen to look forward to together. She was an avid fan and long-time season’s ticket holder of the Sudbury Wolves, a long-suffering fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and as is perennially the custom, she watched every inning of her beloved Toronto Blue Jays this past summer.
She will be remembered by all who knew her for her Irish stoicism, faith, strength of character, pride in her three children, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. This legacy was evident to her very last moments after a year of battling back a very aggressive bladder cancer. Special thanks to the nurses and staff on the 4th and 7th floors at HSN North Tower and the incredible hospice staff at Maison McCullouch Hospice. Eileen would appreciate donations to the Hospice in her honour.
Friends and family may gather at 9:00 a.m. before a 9:30 a.m. Funeral Mass on Saturday, September 30th at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 1250 Barrydowne Road.
