Obituary
With deep gratitude for a life well lived, the family of Egdelina Salazar announces her peaceful passing surrounded by her loved ones, and listening to her favourite music, at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Toronto at the age of 90.
Egdelina was a loving mother to Ruben (Maria Eugenia), William Javier, Luis (Josefina), Sylvia (William), David (Ericka), and Grissel (Rex). She was an adoring and cherished grandmother and great-grandmother to a multitude. She’ll be sadly missed and fondly remembered by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, and most especially, her best friend and cousin Filomena. She goes to join her beloved husband, Ruben.
Egdelina was a Matriarch in the true sense of the word. She came to Canada in 1975 with 3 young children to join her husband. Their family grew, and not only did she raise her own 6 children, she also raised many nieces, nephews, cousins, and grandchildren. Her passion was cooking, and her Arroz con Camaron, Sopa de Bolas, and ceviche had no comparison. She loved Cuban music that was romantic and that she could dance to – she danced almost to the very end. She was incredibly loving and compassionate, deeply nurturing, and loved to share of herself and what she had. While she was stoic, she had a wonderful sense of humour, and a strength of character that she passed on to her loved ones. They are who they are because of her, and they will always be grateful.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the nurses, doctors, specialists and all the staff at St. Joseph’s Health Centre for their exemplary and compassionate care of Egdelina.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, August 15 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and Wednesday, August 15 from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at Ridley Funeral Home, 3080 Lake Shore Blvd W. (at Fourteenth St between Kipling and Islington Aves). Remarks at 11:30 followed by interment at Meadowvale Cemetery.
